QCC (queensborough) Nursing fall 2021

Published

Hi! I just applied to the QCC Nursing program for fall 2021. I was wondering if anyone else applied or gotten their interview date yet?

Just want to jump in quickly, @Victory you asked the question and an experienced student was answering you trying to be helpful. Next time, you should go directly to the source for your answers instead of being hostile or making someone out to be saying something false when they are telling you something that they know as their truth because of experience or direct knowledge. Anyway, Good luck to you.

I hope the best for everyone honestly,

At the time when I was applying, it was stressed that students may not repeat or drop a class but may send a letter of appeal to explain their situation. So technically, you could still apply so I guess that makes you somewhat eligible. If you heard otherwise, now they might have started to be more lenient with that I'm guessing. I am just telling you from my experience like the previous poster mentioned. And the friend who was rejected had confirmed that the reason was due to his withdrawal. And as another tip, if anyone is struggling with A&P, make sure you work really hard to get it down because it will be the base for your understanding the nursing material. ?

@Medsurgbst Do you know how many students get accepted into the program every fall?

@lilbumblebee

80 students for the day session and 40 for the evening which totals out to be 120 for the fall. Spring only accepts 80 day students and no evening.

Thank you for the information! @Medsurgbst

@Medsurgbst Do you know how many people applied to the program? Also, is a mentor automatically assigned to an individual new nursing student?

It's different every year but I know from my cohort, atleast 400-500 people applied. And you have to sign up for a mentor as a 101 student and the faculty will pair you up with a 201 or 202 student. I believe 101 students get paired with 201 and 102 with 202 students.

Oh wow! 400 people?! I wonder if they have to interview all of them?

They actually don't interview everyone. Some people do not hear back for an interview despite meeting the criteria for admission. Otherwise it would take forever to conduct the interviews.

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully everyone here got there interview! We should be hearing back very soon! I'm a little nervous but hopefully all goes well! fingers crossed for everyone!

If you go on the qcc website for prospective students, it clearly states you cannot repeat any of the courses that are part of the pre req which includes English 101, bi 301, ma 336, and psych 101. You can however send in your application but you need yo write an appeal letter. However, I don't think they will view 3 withdrawals lightly. This is a very difficult program and their goal is to accept students who have the best shot at passing and making to the end. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, it is what it is and I want to give you an accurate answer. I had a friend who didn't get in bc he had withdrew from MA 336. You should still send in your app and the appeal regardless just to try.

Hi, I just applied and I’m awaiting results for my application as well. I got my interview back on April 21st. I didn’t know this about withdrawals being accounted for as a repeat course as well, I had assumed repeat simply referred to completing and retaking the course for a higher grade. The withdrew grade for me was in BI-301, in which I got a B in. I hope this doesn’t disqualify me for consideration all together.

I wanted to ask how I can send in an appeal after the fact? I also took the BI-301 co-requisite as well (and all co-requisites) from my previous college, but ended up with a B-, dropping my pre-req GPA from a 3.6 to 3.53 ? My PAX score is 147, but I dunno how much this reconciles my grade.

@KayCast

you were supposed to send it in with your application and it would be in a letter format addressing the reasons for the withdrawal as you stated. I'm not sure how they are doing it now since they seem to be giving out interviews left and right to anyone. As for your stats, it will be enough to get you in. Just be mentally and physically prepared for NU101, which the pre reqs do not prepare you for. Don't even get me started with 102.. as soon as you find out you got in, purchase the textbook and start reading it NOW.
