Pyridion Academy Health And Social Sandwich Program

Published

A Sandwich program on Health and Social Care NVQ2 is being offered to foreign newly graduate nurses by Pyridion Academy, UK. Does anyopne here know how I could check the authenticity of this school as well as its officers?

Thank you in advance for the help....

thanks for the link. =) well actually an agency said they will help me get an NVQ certificate through studying in Pyridion.. I will be able to study and at the same time work as a "care giver" with a salary of 5.5 pounds an hour for two years.. how possible is that? thanks for entertaining my queries..

£5.5 is minimum wage and you will be a carer but not a RN and if expected to do that work then you will be in trouble and open to deportation. I am not sure how the agency is getting round this as there are no shortages of carers in the UK and the government is trying at the moment to get more people off benefits and back to work. You will be taxed on this and depending on where you live will probably have some public transport costs as well as grocery costs. I think you will find you will not be saving much. NVQ does not take years to obtain and as mentioned will not qualify you for work permit at a future date. I suggest you check this out with the UK embassy and see what is actually going on as I would hate to think you are being taken for a ride and loose out

I would be very suspicious of thier promises. NVQ's don't usually take 2 years and I would really doubt they would be recognised outside the UK (although I am not completely sure about that) If you want to work as a qualified nurse in either the UK, canada or the US you will need to fit the requirments of that country and I seriously doubt the NVQ will help you with that.

Am I right in thinking you are coming here on a student visa, if so I think you need to check with immigration about working on that Visa as I think there are specific requirments for this

This is what it says about student visas

"Can I work?

You can take part-time or holiday work, but you must not:

  • work for more than 20 hours a week during term time unless your placement is part of your studies, has been agreed with your educational institution and leads to a degree or qualification awarded by a nationally recognised examining body
  • do business, be self-employed or provide services as a professional sportsperson or entertainer, or
  • work full-time in a permanent job."

okay i'll just check with the embassy.. a friend had just left last month to study in School of London.. same, he's taking the NVQ and he said he's working as a carer.. this really puzzles me as this friend testified that the agency services are real.. but i'll do check with the embassy to be sure. thanks a lot! =)

thanks for the supporting info.. yes, the agency said i'll be using the student visa.. they said that i'll work 20 hours for the curriculum and another 20 hours for the part-time.. they also said i could avail of an overtime too to get more pay.. silverdragon and your information made things clearer for me.. i'll just do some follow up if ever i have another question. thank you again.. :wink2:

you are very welcome, i think you will struggle with the overtime as that will be out of complience with a student visa

If immigration do a search and they do and you are found to be working more hours than allowed you are looking at deportation. Doesn't matter what the agency says they are strict and usually you have to prove that you can support yourself on a student visa.

You are going there as caregivers, and nothing more. There are no visas available for you to remain there when your training again is over with. You already have a BSN in the first place, so why in the world would you wish to train as essentially a nursing asst again? Does not matter what the school is promising, but the fact that there are no visas. And sorry to tell you that this certification will not benefit you for any other country. What you will be missing is two years of RN experience, this does not give you any credit for that at all.

Please take the time to do some reading on the Philippine Forum about what has been going on in the European Union for sometime now, there is a hiring freeze in place. And unless you have significant experience such as in PICU or NICU, there is no way that you are going to be able to stay there.

The pay that you will be receiving is also minimum wage, with the cost of things there, you are not going to have much left for food and clothing. The UK does get cold in the winter, with a bone-chilling cold. You are definitely not going to have anything left to send to your family if that is your goal.

Visas are issued only by government, the school has nothing to do with you being able to remain in the country afterwards. And again, you are not doing a bridge program there as a nurse, but doing training agian that you already should be very familiar with. This will not be treated as experience in the past two years even if you could be able to apply for a visa to remain in the UK. So no visa on top of that available for you. They require recent work experience for most as a start.

Sorry, but this program is giving you very poor information.

There's talk of us getting carers over from the phillipines.Reading these agency 'promises'makes me wonder what these carers are being promised to bring them over. They will be on minimum wage with us and have to support themselves with that.

And if you are in a school program, then that is non-payable time no matter where you are, so this just proves our point. You are unable to work more than twenty hours per week on a student visa and be paid for it. They are trying to circumvent the laws there, and even with them mentioning overtime on top of it, they have really cooked their own goose.

It is illegal for them to even suggest this to you, and if you do work these hours, then you are subject to being deported from there.

Do not think that this is a wise choice in a career move, not the least bit. Just a way for you to work with essentially slave wages and belong to them, and yet not even get credit for working there for the two years.

Sorry, but the need to be reported to the British Embassy in your country for what they are wanting to do. Thnink that they will be quite interested in hearing more of what they have promised.

Look for a country where you can actually work there as an RN, and not in one of these caregiver in the home roles.

They actually do exist. South Africa is hiring, as well as the Middle East.

But with this program, you are just being taken advantage of.

Thanks Suzanne.. (and to Silverdragon102 and XB9S too) your response was very detailed. i will show this to my mom so she could think about it. i too am uncertain and suspicious of that offer but that offer was recommended by a close friend. i'll make sure to double check it with the embassy. thanks for all the advices. God bless. =)
