PWU -Edsa quezon city Nursing school

Published

hi all,

anyone familiar with Philippine Womens University? specifically the Edsa QC branch?

comments on PWU Taft are also welcome.

anyway, the Edsa branch offers second coursers (2 year) programs although it is trimestral.

Is PWU a good nursing school generally speaking?

thanks

hi rookieq..i came from PWU-Taft and was from the group that first graduated from their second-course program. i'm not encouraging you to study there; there are a lot of issues there to begin with. i suggest you try to look for other schools with a second-course prog. but if you really want to push thru with this school bec it comprises only 2 years of nursing experience, i think it's quite tolerable; i lasted 2 years in this school..maybe you could do it too. a word of caution, i think self-study will most likely help you through; do not depend on the professors too much

hi patchieqt, thank you for the reply, if i may ask, what year did you enter? are you practicing nursing now? i will also send you a PM, Thanks!

hi rookieq...

please think hundred times before entering PWU..

there are more better and great nursing schools around that will provide you nursing knowledge and skills more appropriate than PWU...

patchieqt is right.. if you just wanted to have a degree in short time go... but if you wanted to have a quality nursing lectures and experiences, think and think...

uhmm hello to everyone reading this thread..first thing, i am an alumni of PWU-QC and the 2nd batch to graduate from a trimestral nursing program. Yup, it's quite right that you need to self study in order for you to make it in this school but no regrets though and i'm still very proud to tell you all that i came here..and yeah..on passing the local boards?..i did it on my first take..i think my batchmates and i are lucky enough! What's nice with this school were those affiliations in hospitals when you are about to take your RLE...so i'm just here..talking..not bragging for all of this but to enlighten everyone that..a school is just there for guidance and support..we are still the one who makes an impact! Rookieq..goodluck.. =)

Hi! I am a second courser, but i do not like the nursing school where i am in right now.I am planning to transfer to PWU taft. Please inlightened me what is the worst thing at PWU aside from the lecture and skills. I can deal with self study.Thank you.

i think PWU are not are admitting transferees even if they do i heard they do not credit the units that you have taken from your previous nursing school. IMHO like what the others have said regardless of what school you are going, you should still need to read a lot :)

Like some of the posters here, i also came from PWU edsa though i didn't graduate there. i can say that the professors before would be more competent as compared to the professors they have now. I am sitll in communication with some of the professors and they are all frantically urging students to enroll, i wonder why! i am continuing my nursing education after a long vacation (heheh!!) but i opted to enroll in another university. i have experienced several problems and discrepancies when i was getting my documents and just to site a scary example, they nearly lost my TOR.. that is very disturbing right.. and the system of teaching hasn't changed. I can say that i've had a good education/background which i am able to use now but the feedbacks i've heard from one of the professors there who also graduated there isn't really impressive. he opted to transfer to another school to teach for reasons which i decided not to discuss here. please take time to check all the schools you're considering like what i did and do visit them personally and try to talk to the dean or anybody from the college of nursing so you may get more info on how things are done. i suggest pamantasan ng lungsod ng makati.. one of the best schools i was considering and they also offer ladderized courses for 2nd coursers and working students.

In this life, nothing is perfect. I think it’s all a matter of weighing the advantages and disadvantages whenever making a decision. What has been cited here was also true in my experience---they may be notorious for losing files (containing the documents that you gave them when they accepted you in the school)---as that is what happened to me in Taft Avenue. They lost all my pertinent documents and never found it again. So I had to get new a new set of transcript from my former school and then after that incident I made sure that whenever they receive something from me I had them sign a piece of paper as proof. And whenever they issue transcripts and RLE documents, you should go check it thoroughly because more often than not, it contains a “typographical error”. Also, when they evaluate you as to whether which subjects you should take or not, you should make sure that you also have that in writing---ask the Registrar AND Dean to sign it. I think that the area that they have to improve on is the documentation part and paper works. I was also almost excluded from the graduation list because of a “typographical error”. Of course these stuff pissed me off big time---but was not enough to deter me from finishing from the Quezon City Branch. The advantages are more important to me. PWU has long been established. I know that with enough students or not, their Nursing program continues to run---it’s not a hole in the wall kinda thing like the some of the Nursing schools today that suddenly mushroomed and might fold up when Nursing is no longer the “in” thing (so if that happens, you might have problems getting your transcripts and references right?) Also, I know some of their Nursing graduates who have been successful in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East---add the fact that I passed the NCLEX in one attempt and I was able to get my license, so I believe that their program is a legitimate one. And no matter how nice the skills lab of a school is, no matter how nice the facilities are, no matter how knowledgeable the professors are, if it’s not a legitimate one, then everything will be put to waste---that’s the bottom line. Be also wary of these schools that are very new, has very nice surrounding, has very new professors, and has no batch that has graduated yet and has no batch that took the boards yet---they might just be diploma mills luring unsuspecting students.

wow..very well said caringnursenj..i admire the things that you've mentioned and of course the way you weigh things out. What you have experienced from taft branch isn't that good but still you didn't took it so negatively and you decided to stay with the institution instead.

They will credit it provided you pass their qualifying exam. Let's say you want Health Care 1 to be credited, then you have to pass the Health Care 1 qualifying exam.

hi hope_nurse,

did you also come from PWU- Edsa or Taft? can you share which schools you beleive offer better lectures and experiences?

i am debating between Lanting, PWU-Edsa, but PWU is much closer to home and finishes in 2years plus summers. Lanting takes 2.5-3 years with summers...I just felt so claustrophic in Lantings hallways and classrooms..

thanks
