PVT changed?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey so I took my nclex yesterday, and I was there for the entire 265 questions :( Anyways I'm posting this thread because I went home and tried to do the pvt and it led me to the cc page. At this moment I threw a tantrum because it was my second time taking the nclex and I put so much into studying for this test. However after I threw a tantrum I figured I might as well put my card info in since I'll have to register again. Stupid idea, I know. However, after I did this i got a message saying "our records have indicated that you recently scheduled this exam, another registration can't be made at this time". I know that's basically like the pop up you get if you passed. But I'm wondering if there was anyone else who put their cc info in as well, and got the same message and whether they passed or failed? I know risking that was dumb, so I don't need anyone else telling me that.

I think there are posts saying they changed the trick. I think that's the new way to get the new pop-up... I think.

I don't get it..

I don't get it

Since the Pearson Vue website recently changed, the old PVT no longer works. There is a new trick, however, but since the website changed, no one knows for sure if the new trick even works. In the new trick, you put in your credit card info. If you failed, you'll get charged. If you passed, you get the pop up.

Are you in a state that allows quick results? If so, check to see if you passed and report back! :)

okay, yeah I didn't know how this new trick works. I guess because it's pretty new, no one is sure. And I'll be getting my results tomorrow. Pray for me!

Or, as has been reported by recent test-takers on this site, you passed and STILL got charged. Paying $200 for NO results doesn't make much sense since a day later you an pay $8 and get TRUE results.

But people are funny that way.

Oh okay so I guess I have the possibility of passing because I wasn't charged and the cc info wouldn't submit because I "recently registered" for the exam?

Pay the eight bucks for PV Quick Results. THEN you will know for sure if you passed the test or not. Meantime.....why keep making yourself nuts, when NO ONE can tell you anything with any certainty?

Get a drink. Or seven. And let us know how you did AFTER you do the QR :)

Unless they've changed their scoring method and how/when it reports back to the billing system (the PVT), the old and new PVT accuracy rates will be the same. What it all means is that if you failed at the first scoring, did the PVT (paid the $200) and the 2nd scoring indicates you passed, then you're out $200. There always has been a small subset of people whose results flip from one status to the other because of the 2nd scoring.

What changed is that the "old" PVT took you through the steps to schedule an exam and the last step would take you to the credit card screen whereupon you would enter your payment info to pay for an exam. The old PVT wouldn't let you "land" on the credit card page if your result at that time was "pass."

The "new" PVT captures your credit card right away and a "pass" result as of the most recent scoring is what stops the payment from being completed.

Here's a "scoring" matrix if you do the PVT after each scoring (to show you the potential stakes...)

Scoring 1 | Scoring 2 | Result

Fail | Pass | You passed and are out $200

Pass | Fail | Fail - you have now prepaid for your next attempt in 45 days.

Fail | Fail | Fail and you're out $400 because you've paid for 2 exams.

Pass | Pass | Pass - and you're out $0.00 because your 2 $200 payments were intercepted and not completed twice.

This is why I've been saying since the new PVT has popped to life that you wait at least 24 hours to allow for the 2nd scoring to occur so that you only need to do this PVT once. Also, if you do decide to attempt new PVT, you must be certain that you're going to take the NCLEX again and that you're ready to pay the $200 right now for it. If you're in a "Quick Results" state, I highly suggest that if you're worried about pass/fail and you're not ready to commit $200 right now, wait the 48 hours and pay for the QR.

While you're waiting, nervously snacking on pretty much everything in sight, you can keep checking for an RN license because sometimes that'll post well before the quick results are even available. If you're not in a QR state and you can't afford another $200 right now... well, then your option is to simply keep checking for a license and you'll eventually see your license post or you'll receive a letter in the mail with your Candidate Performance Report (means you failed).
