is this correct procedure for a med/surge floor? my patient was having a cva, 2 rn's and 2 np's concurrently examined the patient. their way of helping and caring for this patient was to non-chalantly say they would call the doctor when they had a chance and ask him to see said patient when he/she had a chance, and go back to their chit chat. hello!?!?!?!?!?!?! is anyone home!?!?!?!?!?! the patient is in the middle of stroking out. (by the way - completely unresponsive) i thought if anyone suffered a stroke, especially while in a hospital, it meant that you (rn, np, whatever you are) moved your butt (no dnr). was this the correct procedure?

what other facts do you need to know in order to answer the question?
med/surge patient suffers cva while hospitalized.
patient is not a dnr patient.
neuro check performed.
patient conscious, but fails neuro check.
patient left in med/surge room by four licensed nurses,
possibly having cva evoke further damage.

You still haven't explained exactly what makes you so sure the pt. had a CVA to begin with and you still haven't explained why you didn't call the Dr. If you're that pt's nurse you had an obligation to do that.
And even if you're not a nurse, then you should've followed chain of command. But dx-ing the pt with a cva is not for you to determine. Unless you're a doctor, in which case, you failed to properly test and tx the pt.
