Pt having a "friend" over for "special nursing care"

Published

You know what I mean. . .a patient having someone of the opposite sex (or the same sex! that's happened too) that they are romantically involved with, spend the night (thankfully in a private room) and performing overt sex acts, to the horror of the poor CNA who has to come in and fix her tele leads, which have obviously come loose from all the activity.

I was horrified to know that not only does my hospital not have a policy against this, but the house supervisor told me I was not allowed to tell them to stop! These are sick people here! I understand people say they have "physical needs," but can we draw a line somewhere?!

Good. What other personal views would you like to jam down their throat?

Um, really?

I'd prefer they don't come to the nurses station and take a dump. Are you ok with your patients doing that as well?

Liberated, aren't you a flight nurse? Are you ok with YOUR patients having sex while you're transporting them?

OH! Right. Maslows Heirachry. If Maslow says we NEED it then it must be ok in the hospital and on telemetry. Gosh, thanks so much for pointing that out. Maybe the doctors should start prescribing sex and it could be part of the discharge planning and assessments.

I did not say that you become pervert once you need it. What I am saying is if you are really this moral about sex then be moral about how you respond to the situation. There is nothing that says something has been done except judging the person who did it. The patient has his/her rights too. It is a PRIVATE room.

I need to take a **** about five times a day. If I decide to squat in the emergency stairwell, then I'll just stomp and whine when someone calls me out on it, because it's a basic need that I should have the right to do anywhere I damn well please.

Do it. If you think that a PRIVATE ROOM is thesame as a STAIRWELL.

Not really a big deal unless its jeopardizing the pts safety.

I find it funny that we are a group of people who see genitals whether they're visually pleasing or not and often find ourselves elbow deep in a number of unpleasant substances on a regular basis but we're ready to break out the holy water because a pt decides to get busy?

Meh, I'll just shut the door and come back later.

It be hard to do since we fly one at a time lol, but if they wanted to please themselves, I would just look away.

I think that is a little harsh. Judgmental ignorant comments come from all kinds of people.

I think we should be tolerant, and respectful, of others opinions.

IMHO I think they can wait to get their freak on until they get home. It is really unnecessary to have sex in a public place even though technically it is perfectly legal for them to do so in their PRIVATE ROOM. If they wish to continue and if it doesn't cause a health risk to the patient i ignore them....they are looking for attention.

I usually ask the staff to be respectful if they are in a private room. If there is a patient in another bed I ask the couple to refrain from sexual activity.....if they cannot I move them....or call the MD for a AM discharge.

I will tell visitors that they may not have sex in the waiting rooms or public restrooms. I will call the police if they cannot comply.

Omg it made me crack up to think of Esme saying "get your freak on"! Haha

I think it's inappropriate behavior in a hospital setting . There is a time and place for sex but the hospital isn't it. If the patient is well enough to have sex while being hospitalized, perhaps he/she should be discharged and give that bed to somebody that really needs it. JMO.
