Hola.....I have to do a presentation on victim abuse. I decided to hit it from an angle of women abusing men. Please help me out and take a look at the YouTube link and share your thoughts on it...or any thoughts, comments or experiences you have on Women Abusing Men...

I am in a class of 40, with 4 students including myself being male. I want to make it as interesting as possible...but since we are out numbered, i don't want to offend any ladies and get us all beat up j/k :-)

check out the women's reaction at 3:15....and tell me what do you think

I would say you're right to choose to do a presentation on this kind of abuse, but you will likely be poorly received by your classmates. The Youtube video pretty well sums up the general attitude about women abusing men: when it happens, which is not very often, he probably deserved it, and she probably won't really hurt him anyways.

My class was also about 10% male at most, and when we had our lecture on abuse the lecturer chose to identify the abuser as "he" and the victim as "she" because "most of the time, the male is the abuser." Which is true, but promotes a negative stereotype. I walked out of that lecture.

i didn't watch your video, but the level and type of violence men suffer from women just doesn't compare in general to the violence women suffer from men.

if you're a pregnant women, it gets even worse.

actually the % is about the same....it is the level of injury that is potentially different. few man are killed/maimed out right.....doesnt make the abuse any more acceptable, at least it shouldnt.....i think, if you are going to do this, you need to make it clear that you arent trying to defend or deflect the fact that it is less likely to result in permanent PHYSICAL harm than the man attacking woman scenario....and bring out the fact of mental illness being present in both scenarios (potentially)

I think if the woman obviously was overpowering the man, or was bigger than the man, it might've brought more people to the rescue. Looking at the video, the woman is not actually battering the man. In the first part, however, the man actually has his hands on the woman's neck. Way different than shoving someone on the shoulder or batting him with a newspaper.

I agree, there is a double standard, but that only partly explains the lack of interest or interference on the part of the onlookers. It's pretty well known that the most dangerous types of crimes to get yourself involved in are the domestic ones.

Interesting....what hurts worse, a physical "slap" or an emotional one? I deal with abuse victims all the time. As a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, I find people sympathize with the women, and question the male victims. Victim=victim. Sex doesnt lessen the degree of emotional impact. Working as a psych nurse, I see that a lot. We feel for the poor lady who's dad beat her as a kid, but look at the guy to "toughen up". Not fair!

I've arrested a woman for domestic battering a man (probably more than one), and I've arrested a gay for battering a gay. Men get beat up too. It's usually kind of comical to me. I'm weird though.
