Well I made it through the first year. I am now taking a Critical care class. We are studying a full case studies with lab results and generating nursing dx and probable medical dx. This is fun and really interesting. I just has a revelation yesterday that I am finally starting to understand fluid and electrolytes. I am really getting excited about the next semester when I go into an advanced med-surg. I starting to see myself graduating in May 2004. I am also taking an English class, word of warning please take all of prereq's before nursing classes. I am finally having so much fun with nursing and then I have to stop and read Hamlet.
Stephany,
I feel for you having classes in the summer!! As you know, I'm done and it feels great! I was gonna pick up and move out of the state to start my nursing career. I think I've decided now to stay here for another year and save money before I make such a drastic move.
I also didn't like our psych rotation. I don't know how much time you get in psych clinicals but where I was, I just didn't think the psych nurses did enough. I would be bored and frustrated beyond belief. Advanced Pharm sounds difficult, I do love learning about drugs though. Please keep in touch! I like seeing your blue :).

I know that everyone has their own niche that they find in nursing but I can say without a doubt that psych nursing is not mine!!!
Every day I went through that rotation I thought I wanted to jump out of the highest window I could find. I never really did see any "real" nursing. I observed many techs, social workers and the like but very, very minimal nursing. Basically psych nursing, in what I observed, is med passing.
Just thought I'd pass on my two cents. And May is starting to look good to me too!!! I can hardly wait.

Not quite just med passing... I thought the same thing... See thread below.

I stand corrected!
What the real shame is that as a nursing student, I NEVER saw any of that. If the field of psych nursing wants to get more students to enjoy and possibly want to go into that field, you would think that we would participate more in exactly what they do.
I am not going to be a tech, so why did I shadow them for 8 weeks?

Hey girl!
It sounds as if you've got your hands full! If anyone can get through this it is you! I am still trudging along and that is why I haven't been on either. I have alot of papers to get done this week so I better get to it! Let's try and have a chat when this semester is over!
take care all

hello all. i don't get on much due to [as some of you] nursing classes this summer.
i have had one rotaion of psych and i know this is not the area i am interested in. only with one day on an acute unit, i was able to attend a hearing, group therapy, and have one-on-one with my patient.
advance pharm is "making my head spin"!
how is everyone else doing whether in school or out for the summer session.
by the way, i miss you when i am not here.
