I agree about the notes and examples. Someone gave me that advice, and it really paid off.When you are taking notes, don't abbreviate or leave out words..... it get laborious....... but it really pays off on the exams. Exams are open note open book. Start out being organized right from the beginning. Use post it notes to help you find sections of your notes or book easily. And work out the problems step by step in a way that makes sense to you. It will help you breeze through the exam ( well maybe not breeze through, but help alot!)
