PSY 120 Elementary Statistical Reasoning

Anyone taken this course? I'm thinking of taking this with NRSE 451 Transitions in order to finish this course before the switch to semesters.

How difficult was this course? I've taken a lot of online courses, so that is not an issue. I am OKAY with math (I got an A in College Algebra by really applying myself). I'm also working 1 full-time job, and another part-time. I'm going to cut down on the part-time job though.

Good to hear that the exam wasn't so bad. I take my midterm next week and though I have a different instructor I'm hoping mine won't be too bad either. I'm halfway through all my assignments now, which should mean I'm nearly up to speed with the rest of you in the 8 week class. I have had a few fits but overall it's really not going so bad. Dare I say that I actually like doing the calculations from my last couple of mods? Yea okay so maybe I'm a little bit of a freak.:) This class has definitely been more time consuming then any other class I've taken in this program so far. The supplemental notes and videos have been helpful but I have found even more helpful links on my own via google. I think the Howell book is very technical and doesn't explain the steps very well, hence the need for me to look online. The Utt book is more reader friendly, not so technical, but it doesn't have all the formulas. Stats is done for the week, now I have to get cramming for my microbiology exam and work on an assignment for art 110. If I were working fulltime there is no way I could handle these three classes. Okay, guess that's all I've got for now.

You know I must be a freak too, because the actual calculations are kind of fun lol I guess it is either right or wrong, no need for much interpretation- at the level of elementary statistics anyway.

I am NOT loving these Chi square problems. Talk about time consuming. So many calcuations. Then I get done and find out I got the wrong anwer and have to recheck all of my calculations... I spent 4 hours tonight on this.

Modgoth1 .... let me know if you find a good site for the Chi square stuff. Overall I get it, but I could use help with the doing the formula and which one to choose to use.

I've just been peeking at your posts to see what I'm in for come August 27. Did you look at Khan Academy? They have a video on Chi Square Tests....not sure if it's what you need!!

I took my midterm exam today. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't easy either. There were a handful of questions that I simply did not know and could not find the answers to, even with my notes, assignments, and books. There were also some questions that were exactly the same as questions from the assignments. My only complaint was that it was SO long and I used every minute of the 2 1/2 hours alloted for the test. Sitting there that long was the hardest part. I'm glad it's over!

I'm taking at least a day or two off from stats work, and will start digging in to chi square studies next. I have an Art paper to write by tomorrow and a lab report for microbiology. Isn't this quarter over yet??!!

To those of you in the 8 week class, what is your topic this week? I'm wondering if I'm close to catching up with you yet. I was going to take a break from stats for a couple of days but went ahead and did the chi square assignment. The lecture notes for this topic were easier to follow then any before and I breezed through it pretty quick. The next topic I'll be working on is probabilities. I glanced at it briefly and it doesn't appear to be so bad. Anyone doing probabilities now?

Yes, we are doing probabilities now, it is our Module 7. It seems pretty easy, except for fighuring out which methods to use, ( addition or multiplication).

I have been away for 4 days and tonite I freaked out b/c I didn't realize that I have two Modules due instead of one. I know what I will be doing for the next 3 days.

Modgoth1, your earlier post said you had 2/12 hours for the midterm. Our class had 3 hours. I used every bit of it too. Wonder why your prof gave you only 2 1/2 hours?

We are doing Probability...both Module 7 and 8 together

I didn't think it was easy either. In fact, the first time in my life ever that I developed test anxiety :( . I guess because I have been so nervous about this class. I ended up with a C so I'm happy with that, could have been MUCH worse.

I don't know why we had only 2 1/2 hours versus 3 hours. Having 3 hours would have been grueling too but at least I wouldn't have felt so rushed at the end.

If I get my microbio lab report done today I plan to start working on stats probabilities tonight. Yay, more stats! Not!

Michele, I may have asked you this before but are you taking the course with Professor L in August? I will stick around this forum next semester, and am willing to offer help in stats to anyone who needs it. I'm rocking an A in this class, so far, and feel that I'm understanding it for the most part.

Yes I am. I plan to review some of the khan academy videos during our break...I just don't know where to start.....he wouldn't tell me that, lol. You ate kicking butt with 3 classes! Way to go! Is your micro online also?? I need that too!

My micro lecture is online but have to physically attend labs. I'm taking this class at a local community college in Columbus, OH. I'm not kicking butt in that class at all, only have a high C average right now. There are no assignments to turn in, only 3 tests and a lab report. The labs are simple but the tests are hard. The class average has consistently been a C grade so I at least know that I'm not the only one who finds it difficult.
