Anyone taken this course? I'm thinking of taking this with NRSE 451 Transitions in order to finish this course before the switch to semesters.
How difficult was this course? I've taken a lot of online courses, so that is not an issue. I am OKAY with math (I got an A in College Algebra by really applying myself). I'm also working 1 full-time job, and another part-time. I'm going to cut down on the part-time job though.

I wanted to do this too. My advisor warned me not to take them together, since NRSE 451 is actually two nursing classes combined instead of one.

I took it with Ethics and Family last term. It was doable. Just know that the Statistics professor opens the class a few days early to get a start on the assignments. I did not know that and it would have been very helpful!

I am signed up for it with community. Not looking forward to it but want it out of the way. I am glad he posts early I def want to get an early start in this class.
Just look for it on Blackboard starting about 5 days out and check it daily. I heard a lot of people were really helped by that. And remember it's not on Epic.
So now I have all the information for the class. There is a lot to read. Any suggestions for being prepared for the mid-term and finals? Any suggestions for studying/doing assignments effectively in the short 5 weeks we have! Thanks!!

Stats is HARD, but doable is you are organized.
I had Prof L. He opened up the course about 4-5 days before the class started. He strongly advised student to get a head start. I was going to take stats w/health appraisal, but tested out of appraisal. THANK GOD!! Stats was so time consuming, I would have died taking it with another class. But that's just me. By the time the class opened up I was on module 4 or 5. You work out of 2 books. 1 you use more than the other. There is NO showing your work on the assignments. You just write out your answer and submit. The MAIN problem with this is if you mess up on ANY part of the equation, your ENTIRE answer is wrong. I made this mistake on 1 assignment by missing a decimal, and 1 error caused me to get like 7 answers wrong. That was a hard pill to swallow.
The message board is pretty much pointless as you can't "REALLY" ask for help. If you try to help a classmate, they will SLAM you for providing too much info, and basically whisper the word cheating…SO I never bothered w/ the class message board. I found it frustrating.
I did join every STATS forum known to man. Some of the folks on there are VERY helpful. Some have an attitude b/c they think you're only asking questions to get the answer (which you are, but they don't need to point it out…LOL)…I just ignored those folks, and kept asking until I found an eager math geek willing to help. I also live with a math geek, so when he wasn't busy, my husband helped me a lot figuring out homework assignments. YOUTUBE will also be your friend if you are a visual learner. You'd be surprised all of the stats stuff there is on Youtube.
MAJOR TIP:
Your exams are OPEN BOOK/OPEN NOTE. So BE SMART when you are organizing your notes. Make sure that your notes/examples are easy to find and follow. Be able to flip to stuff fast. If not, you will WASTE a lot of time looking for stuff and 2 hrs seems long, but slips away FAST when you are taking this type of test.
Know your calculator. Don't get 1 so scientific that you can't figure out. The test is already stressful, so make sure your calculator does what it's suppose to do.
Even if you don't know the answer, SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK. They give a lot of partial credit on the exam. I left 2 pgs blank on the mid-term (ran out of time b/c my notes were unorganized). Just knew I failed. Ended up getting a B on the mid-term and final. And would have had an A if not for that 1 assignment that I BOMBED.
So start early, get help on homework assignments, make sure that you have organized notes/pgs marked in your book, show all of your work, and YOU'LL DO FINE :)
deltaroxxy2,
You're a gem spending the time to write this post. It is very helpful. Thanks for the tip about the calculator and finding stuff on youtube.
Can you remember any of the forums you visited for stats?

No prob…This forum was a tremendous blessing to me while attending OU, so I'm glad to help.
Statistics Help @ Talk Stats Forum and Statistics Forums - Statistics Help are the 2 I frequented. They are both very helpful. Just remember that they snub people just looking for answers, to trying to write out the problem and what you've attempted when asking for help. Gets you more responses
