PSY 120 Elementary Statistical Reasoning

Anyone taken this course? I'm thinking of taking this with NRSE 451 Transitions in order to finish this course before the switch to semesters.

How difficult was this course? I've taken a lot of online courses, so that is not an issue. I am OKAY with math (I got an A in College Algebra by really applying myself). I'm also working 1 full-time job, and another part-time. I'm going to cut down on the part-time job though.

I have also been writing out the steps in a way that I can understand. Though so far in my first week, the only thing that this has pertained to was in finding margins of error. I know there will be many other "steps" that I will need to take note of. Thanks for the heads up about the videos, I will definitely refer to them if I'm having trouble.

Writing it out so you understand it, That is a really good idea, b/c I learned the hard way. I was doing alot of abbreviations and shortcuts in my notes and then went back later and had no idea what I it meant. It did not save time for sure, I had to refind the stuff in the book or video and rewrite it.

That is one little piece of advice.

Just as I assumed, Mod 3 & 4 are more difficult than the previous mods. Made it through Mod 3 with some issues but finally overcame them. Now Mod 4 is about to drive me insane, I think I've just had enough stats for the day. I cannot think of one single instance where I will need to figure the normal distribution and z scores. For those of you in the 8 week class, how much normal distribution and z score calculating knowledge is needed once you get past the mod for them? I'm hoping none, but I doubt that's the case. Back to more calculating.........ugh!!

Good luck to everyone taking the mid term this week. I take it tomorrow. study... study... study....

Modgoth1...

Not sure how much of the z scores will be needed in the next module. I'm getting ready for the midterm. There is a section on the midterm for Z scores, But after that in the next modules, I don't know yet. I'll let you know.

Thanks cincinursemary!

I've been working on the z scores/normal distrib. again this morning and it is making sense, mostly. I was just overloaded with stats last night and had reached my breaking point. A good nights sleep did wonders.

I wish you all the best with your midterm.

I take mine tomorrow as well....I am so nervous, haven't even got to finish module 5 yet due to my stupid work schedule and my other classes. At least there is a chance for partial credit with the midterms. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!

Midterm wasn't so awful. No real surprizes.wish I had a break for a week, but on to Mod 6. I'm going out of town next week and got to get it done.

Oh good to hear!! I drove to my proctor site and when the librarian wasn't there I realized I am not taking it until tomorrow!! I was all ready to go lol I guess my brain turned to mush there for a second.

Good Luck, tell us how it went.

It was not too bad! Pretty much like our assignments. I personally did not like the first two modules...something about all these definitions is just sooo frustrating lol So i spent the most time on the MC questions regarding that. You do need the three hours, I used every minute of it!! Good luck to everybody still taking it.

Modgoth1, you are my hero lol I don't think I would want to try statistics in five weeks.

Good to hear that the exam wasn't so bad. I take my midterm next week and though I have a different instructor I'm hoping mine won't be too bad either. I'm halfway through all my assignments now, which should mean I'm nearly up to speed with the rest of you in the 8 week class. I have had a few fits but overall it's really not going so bad. Dare I say that I actually like doing the calculations from my last couple of mods? Yea okay so maybe I'm a little bit of a freak.:) This class has definitely been more time consuming then any other class I've taken in this program so far. The supplemental notes and videos have been helpful but I have found even more helpful links on my own via google. I think the Howell book is very technical and doesn't explain the steps very well, hence the need for me to look online. The Utt book is more reader friendly, not so technical, but it doesn't have all the formulas. Stats is done for the week, now I have to get cramming for my microbiology exam and work on an assignment for art 110. If I were working fulltime there is no way I could handle these three classes. Okay, guess that's all I've got for now.

I am NOT loving these Chi square problems. Talk about time consuming. So many calcuations. Then I get done and find out I got the wrong anwer and have to recheck all of my calculations... I spent 4 hours tonight on this.

Modgoth1 .... let me know if you find a good site for the Chi square stuff. Overall I get it, but I could use help with the doing the formula and which one to choose to use.
