I just wanted to create a forum for those applying to Providence TIP RN Residency program for new grads applying to the 2024cohort. I know the application opens soon, so I wanted to create this forum so we can discuss the application process, interviews, and more!! ☺️

Uh... ? My friend at Kaiser (new grad) was started 55 per hour and she got her preferred shift (days). But I guess she's somehow working for it since she mentioned how they usually have 1 CNA per floor. 2 if they're lucky.

Kaisers are horrible. I've worked at multiple and all are just as bad as HCA. Working at one now and do not recommend. Their pay is high for a reason. Is she in NorCal? If so that's crazy low. Sounds about right for SoCal though

I heard it's pretty competitive there, but the pay is good 70+ above for new grads at NorCal.
I'm a new grad and I was accepted to a telemetry unit for nights, I declined because the offer was a little low ($49) not including differentials. I was told by my family that I should just wait and look for better offers + preferred shifts.

She's in Southern California. San Diego to be exact.

Oh yeah San Diego is insanely low. Lower than LA. I could have stayed here on tele pcu floors and made $100 an hour but I absolutely despise pcu ms tele and need off the floor asap. Also rent is about $4,000 for a 1 bedroom in the city. SoCal is notoriously low pay. $49-50 sounds about right for new grads in SoCal. New grad in NorCal make $75-85 off the bat... but again rent here is absolutely insane

Damn, that rent is expensive.
It's (the offer) not worth it for me, especially when I have to work nights. I did nights for preceptorship before and it was not kind to my body, especially my mental health. I'm currently applying for day shifts positions right now. I know it is competitive to land a new grad position for days, but I'll get lucky eventually!

It's crazy competitive to get into the hospital as a new grad in California. I had to start on nights 8 years ago and this was in Florida after months of not getting in. Nights are what you make it, yes it can be rough but it's a better time to learn if you're new. Also you can't flip flop between days and nights if you're nighshift. How many shifts did you do that it affected your mental health? Wow. Good luck

Around 2-3 months! I'll just keep applying for day shifts positions for now. I'm not in a hurry to get a job right away. Might change my mind later on, but I wouldn't want to take a job I know I'm not going to be happy with. It'll burn me out faster.

I'm truly curious how new grads afford to live in these areas on this? Live with parents? Significant other? I'm coming from the bay and taking a massive pay cut to specialize in ICU and will only be making $57 after 8 years of being a nurse LOL.
