Following a weekend of nationwide protests, National Nurses United (NNU) today said the nation is long overdue in confronting the systemic racism that is at the heart of much of the current crisis and long overdue in dedicating itself to fundamental reforms.
“There’s a common link between the latest wave of police and white supremacist killings of African Americans and the disproportionate racial impact of the pandemic and the economic crisis,” said NNU Executive Director Bonnie Castillo, RN.
“Nurses understand that when you have pain and suffering, whether it is one patient or a community that is hurting, the first priority must be healing and recovery, driven by compassion and humanity ,” Castillo said . “ We’re seeing far too much of the opposite reaction .”...
That which is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence - Hitchens. Can you explain the link between a racist cop and negative health outcomes? I can explain higher rates of chronic health conditions due to personal choice like diet and exercise, but I’m unaware of how racism could cause diabetes or high cholesterol. Help me understand this because if I’m not following, there’s a good chance that others are not making this same connection.

"The Mid-South population had increased rates of chronic disease and worse health-related behaviors than the rest of the U.S. population. Mid-South blacks had the highest percentages of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and stroke of all subgroups, along with lower physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption. In both races and regions, individuals with lower income and education had higher rates of chronic disease and unhealthy behaviors than those with higher income and education. However, black men in both regions had higher obesity and cancer rates in the higher education category. In general, education-level disparities were more pronounced in health-related behaviors, whereas income-level disparities were more pronounced in chronic health conditions."
Does that help?
Everyone is trying to jump on the bandwagon with the new angle on why they don't like racist cops. It's like the slacktivists on facebook sharing memes about it, as if they are some big time social justice warriors.
I think the truth is more complex than that. Chronic health problems do lead to more vulnerability from covid. The reasons for those, often lifestyle based diseases, are many.
Corporate America is largely to blame, pushing health killing products on the public. What about sodapop being peddled in our schools? In the case of African Americans, their cuisine is based on Southern Cooking, and the American South, white and black, has bad health because of that.
Inner cities are stressful places to live. There is a lot of crime and hopelessness. Yes, these are legacies of racism.
It is simplistic to just blame personal choices. We are so much a product of our environment and culture. It's very difficult to break years of conditioning to certain foods, especially when you don't have a lot of money. Add to that that our culture,as a whole, is not physically active anymore. It's even harder to have normal physical activity in congested urban settings.

The best thing the cops can do is to stop servicing neighborhoods they aren't wanted. In areas like inner-city Chicago, the police departments should preemptively act before being disbanded by refusing to dispatch to areas where they'll be socially vilified for using force against violent lawbreakers.
Let BLM activists and Antifa rioters take over the policing. See if they can mollify warring gang members with flowers in hand and free hugs galore. Their community-negotiation harebrained ideas can stop the rapes and arson and muggings.
What will really happen, I think, is that when the crime rates go out of control due to the anti-police sentiment, the law-abiding residents will simply emigrate than put up with Syria- or Honduras-style conditions in their neighborhoods. There'll be nothing but anarchic drug dens and havens for gang turf wars. At that point President Trump can drop some bombs there and put an end to this nonsense for once and for all.

That definitely sounds like you are recommending an emotional retaliation from the police. Let's review the last time that upset white people and their police dropped bombs on the aggravating black people, shall we? You seem to be conveniently ignorant of American history.
