    Influenza and COVID-19: The Twindemic

You say that as though there's no way to tell how COVID prevention measures have worked on actual COVID, based on data from regions and countries that have adopted various strategies. I've never had the flu in my life, but I got COVID 4 months into c...

    Fear and Anxiety

In the U.S., drunk driving kills about 10,000 people a year. COVID-19 has killed 75,000 in roughly 3 months. Try again. The right to swing your fist ends where another man's nose begins; freedom doesn't include the right to harm other people.
  3. My state has had more COVID deaths in the first month of the infection than the flu has had this entire season. How is reporting that sensational or irresponsible? Have you looked at graphs of the increase happening in the U.S.? The world? Pandemic ...

    RN, ADN being obsolete

My BSN coursework so far has been absolutely useless to my bedside nursing. An ASN is not going to be preferred, but it's perfectly reasonable for an employer to be indifferent to ASN vs BSN to consider other factors in who is most suited to a job.

    RN, ADN being obsolete

That is terrifying! I only make a few dollars more an hour in the hospital now than I did in LTC/SAR during my first year of nursing, but I never felt like I was getting ripped off until the rent hikes that have happened here in the last few years. I...

    RN, ADN being obsolete

I'm one of them. I'm a midwest city girl and have not had a problem finding employment in my 7 years with an ASN. I'm still working on my BSN though because of tuition reimbursement for a 12 month work commitment, and the desire to get the heck out o...

Forced to do 12 hr shifts

Guided meditation, ASMR, melatonin, calming activities before bed... Also coffee, tea, Diet Coke, and "Only 12 hours til I can sleep again."

Are you discerning with your "likes"?

Same here. I have an unfortunate level of interest in my post-to-like ratio. I also get stupid happy when one of my AN crushes likes a post of mine.

Is it legal for your boss to dictate where you poop?

Sugar alcohols can indeed be a real bear.

Is it legal for your boss to dictate where you poop?

Klone, you're putting a damper on my fantasy of moving to Oregon!

    Birds of a feather

Don't worry, bipolar isn't contagious. Hats off to the nurse who has her mental illness well controlled enough that she can successfully handle multiple jobs. My psych nursing instructor was a little nutty herself. Couldn't concentrate to save her li...

    Why are they called, "Chucks?"

No, that's the sound wind chimes make. And if your patient chucks, you need a basin, not an absorbent underpad.

    Why are they called, "Chucks?"

Velcro has been filing of Etsy crafters who use the word to desribe hook and loop closures. First world problems.

    Nursing pay..Check this out!

That I'll agree with; it's a completely separate issue from whether nurses should be paid a flat rate across the country, regardless of the actual value of the dollar paid. Does a gallon of milk cost more in Alaska than Indiana? Yes. So why should an...

    Loosing hope

Your job (or lack thereof) history is always relevant to your current job-seeking experience. So is your attitude.
  16. Now that's too extreme. All it takes is a little vinegar to clear the pipes.

Not sure how to deal with this future classmate...

Trust. Your. Instincts. At the very least, he is ignoring your passive disinterest and that's not a good thing. Be direct. If you do not clearly communicate that you're not interested in a social relationship he will twist that into plausible deniabi...

What is a Sugar Cleanse and Do I Need It?

From Merriam-Webster: Definition of toxin : a poisonous substance that is a specific product of the metabolic activities of a living organism and is usually very unstable, notably toxic when introduced into the tissues, and typically capable of induc...
  21. Because causing someone lots of pain to reduce their blood volume by 12 drops (sewing needles, what fun!) will DEFINITELY lower their blood pressure during a stroke.

What is a Sugar Cleanse and Do I Need It?

If this is research-based, please provide your operational definition for toxin,” what the parameters of your sugar cleanse are, and what each toxin” level was before and after the sugar cleanse.

    No Respect.

Okay, but if there's smoke coming from under the hood, you don't demand that the mechanic stop and clean a bug off the windshield. And if you do, expect to be rebuffed.

    First Time Fall

When an alert & oriented patient does something they know is risky and gets hurt, it is their fault, not yours. I've only had one fall in acute care (tons in LTC before that) and I did feel bad for not anticipating my LOL's nighttime confusion. I...
