  1. Transcript for ENB courses?

I am thinking about doing a Masters in acute care NP here in the USA. Of course they ask for transcripts for all training and ,whilst I don't think it's that important as was pre-project 2000 and the core curriculum so didn't give any academic points...
  2. Ataxia vs weakness

Has the patient had an acute stroke? If so, then you should only be testing the side affected by this stroke. That's why for ataxia, it only gives you the option of 0 (no ataxia) 1 (ataxia in upper or lower limb) or 2 (ataxia in both limbs). Deciding...
  3. how to perform basic neuro check, not the NIH scale

Surely it depends on the individual patient? For example, the NIH(SS) is a Stroke scale, and would not be appropriate for someone with MS. FAST (Face, Arm, Speech,Time of onset) again , was specifically developed for use in the emergency assessment o...
  4. U.S. nurses sponsership

I would start applying for positions. The forms will ask you if you are legally allowed to work in the US and you say " No". Then they will decide whether they want to interview you. I would only apply for positions that REQUIRE (not prefer) a BSN. ...
  5. PH Nurses for USA (Experiences with Employers)

I don't believe that article has much credibility. It's more what it doesn't say than what it does. The nursing shortage may have temporarily decreased during the recession because some nurses have returned to work and the US is training more nurses...
  6. How Do I Get My Green Card In New York

Not sure, as you say immi' attorney would be able to help, but the criteria says [h=3]Eligibility Criteria[/h] You may be eligible to receive a green card under Section 13 if you can establish that: You entered the United States as an A-1, A-2, ...

  9. Hemmoragic Stroke

Yes technically it is, BUT, clinically, if someone has a SAH it is referred to as a SAH-not a hemorrhagic stroke. Part of the reason for this is that the risk factors and pathology are different from hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. The most common ...
  10. A way to the States for a foreign nurse

You need to apply for CES AND visa screen through CGFNS. As Jeweles says, there are some genius' there.
  11. I understand your want to finish your Masters, but what I meant was that it will be easier to get a Green card/visa via your husband than through your nursing and if he has a PhD then it definitely would. He may be able to get an O visa or he may b...
  12. Providgil for stroke pts

Would like to see where the research based evidence for this is. I hope they do a full assessment of the "sleepiness" ie sleep apnea secondary to stroke, insufficient amount of night sleep (monitored-amount of quality sleep and reasons for lack of e...
  13. Hemmoragic Stroke

SAH isn't usually classified as a Hemorrhagic stroke- it's a SAH! To answer the OP it really depends on the location and size of the bleed and the patients condition and comorbidity.
  14. Masters will be a good thing- but bare in mind that most Masters prepared RNs here are either NPs or CNS and they have to have done a recognized NP or CNS course and be certified via the American Nurses Credentialing Center.http://www.google.com/url?...
  15. Visa Screen

I think you can forget about H-1b unless employer is cap exempt as they expect the cap to be reached by April 5th this year and there may be an H-1b "lottery" for the first time since 2007
  16. Hi-friends daughter needs surgery for spinal scoliosis. I think she's 13, living in VA. Any recommendations for a specialist center/surgeon would be appreciated. We can use the usual resources to look at infection rates etc and have seen some hospita...
  17. Uk BSc nurse wanting to work in florida

For most (all?) states you only need to sit NCLEX-which is the US RN licensing exam. You will need to apply for CES via CGFNS as a first step to getting a license. You will only be allowed to sit NCLEX if you meet the requirements for number of hours...
  18. How Do I Get My Green Card In New York

I think you may be eligible (under section 13 of the INA) to apply for a Green Card-regardless of your nursing.USCIS - Green Card Through Section 13 (Diplomats). I would get advice from an immigration attorney. The fact that you have a BSN (nursing i...
  19. I was wondering what sort of hourly rate I could be looking for for a RN clinical supervisor position on a 40 bed acute stroke/medical rehab ward which is a stand alone hospital, but part of a large hospital system in Charlotte NC? It's a BSN require...
  20. Nurses are #1 in Honesty/Ethics again - Gallop

This is based on opinion, stereotypes and maybe personal experience. I think many people assume that professionals who are involved in life and death situations and deal with people when they are at their most vulnerable and helpless are more likely ...
  21. Central line protocols

Sorry- I'm confused here. Are anesthesiologists not part of cardiac arrest teams? In the socialised healthcare system in the UK they would be the ones to place a central line in a patient in ED if it was required post arrest, or they would go with th...
  22. Medication tidbits an ER nurse should always know

I agree. Patients who are underfilled can be hypertensive, and nitroglycerin can drastically drop the systolic. It usually responds to fluids and it's far better to have it ready. I would have thought that anyone requiring nitrates should have IV acc...
  23. Medication tidbits an ER nurse should always know

No one has mentioned checking patients PMH or current drug medication history to see if there is any reason not to give the drug, if the dosage needs to be lowered (eg in the elderly, renal impairment, liver impairment) I have a bit of a bee in my bo...
