  1. Calling graduating class of 2014!

    December 2014 graduate! Can't wait :)
  2. Rough clinical day

Yesterday easily had to be the roughest clinical day I have had since starting nursing school. I won't go into too much detail as the internet is very public, but here is an example of a couple of things that happened- Unhappy with me not using her s...
  3. Rough clinical day

Thanks for all of the advice! I'll definitely take it. Meds are up to 4hrs late at times due to either- her still reviewing the pts info to make sure we have not missed anything, not being able to find her, her being busy with something else, along w...
  4. Question about stna?

Something to add too is even if you think you can do everything the correct way you do at work , it more than likely isn't going to be the correct way for the STNA test. Text book vs. real life
  5. Question about stna?

I know it isn't what you want to hear, but I would take the classes. There are SO many specifics that they are looking at when testing and they can choose any 4 (it may be 5, I can't remember) out of 20ish skills. They ask you on the spot and you hav...
  6. Should I retake Anatomy?

Honestly? Nobody could pay me enough to go through that hell again, lol. Review some lightly. Often times nursing books have a pg or 2 in the beginning of each chapter on A&P. Nursing is also more critical thinking than memorizing.
  7. I would be very happy with what you accomplished. And those are 'B's, nothing to be ashamed of. 10yrs down the road you are going to be an RN and you aren't going to be thinking of 'the A that got away'. Be happy, move on, work harder next semester, ...
  8. C's on all my Anatomy and Physiology classes.

Honestly, I would talk with your school. I got in with a 3.0GPA. And I know I'm prob going to get bashed for this, but there is so much in A&P that you aren't going to use. As a nurse on the floor, you aren't going to be looking at slides and dec...
  9. best book for learning med dosage calculations?

I love the website mentioned above! Does your school use ATI? Their dosage calc tutorials are really helpful.
  10. Should I get CNA job during nursing school?

That's honestly something only you can decide. Both getting the job and what amount of work to take on :) It's fairly easy to get a position in long term care, hospitals are harder to get into. While it can be good experience and there is nothing wro...
  11. Splinting Post-Op

Hi everyone! I am currently working through my study guide for my second fundamentals of nursing exam this semester. Part of the information we are being tested on is an introduction to caring for a surgical pt. In my study guide it simply says to re...
  12. Can they force me to work weekends during jury duty???

Since weekends are not part of the trial, and if your availability with the hospital includes weekends, then I don't see there being much you can do. You would be able to consult a lawyer if they were demanding that you work a Tuesday, but not a Satu...
  13. ATI critical thinking exam ..

It's on completely random stuff, think one of those online job application 'tests'. Don't sweat it.
  14. First Semester is done!

I can happily say I finished my first semester of nursing school! 'C' in A&P1(that's a long and horrifying story), 'B' in Small Group Communications, 'A' in Introduction to Professional Nursing, and 'A' in Pharmacology. Needless to say I'm very h...
  15. Nursing Orientation...

  16. I have just started my program and I can completely relate with you. You just have to remember that you are at a different point in your life than your friends. How many are in college, and if they are, what are their majors? Classes in psychology an...
  17. Organizing Class Work, Handouts, and Binders

I use these. Couldn't keep everything together without them!
  18. New to allnurses!

Relax while you can. You will learn what you need to know! If anything, pick up a simple medical terminology book to browse through in your spare time.
  19. certified LPN considering CNA/PCT/ or MA instead

Have you tried applying for positions open to MA with your LPN Degree? I don't see why they wouldn't take you. If you are going to go back to school, you would be better off just getting your RN.
  20. How to pass the compass placement test?

Compass is not a pass/fail test. It's strictly placement. It covers math, reading, and English/grammar. As you answer questions they get harder, until you consistently start getting them wrong. Then you move onto a new subject.
  21. I have been a student at COTC since sept 2011 and just got into the ADN program starting this summer. First of all, I would not pay much attention to the 'scare tactics' used in the information meeting. If you are a good student, have above average t...
  22. I got in! Best study guides :)

Hi guys! I have been taking pre-requisite and general education courses since Sept 2011 at Central Ohio Technical College in Newark. I found out last minute in Feb that I could apply for our summer 2013 start and I got in! I was so ecstatic I almost ...
  23. 2.5 gpa Best way to get accepted in nursing program?!

Do you have any classes left to take? Do your best in those. When I first started college, I made the horrible mistake of overloading myself for 2 qtrs. needless to say, I had a gpa around 2.3. I sat down with my advisor, we both decided that I shoul...
