  1. Unfortunately, we cannot give you legal advice, nor tell what the BON will or won't do. Best to follow your attorney's advice, hold onto your license until they pry it from your cold dead hands. Good luck with this situation.
  2. Haven't checked in to AN for a while but the resurrection of this 2014 post peaked my interest. As a black nurse, I have had my fair share of racial refusals. As a younger nurse I was often re-assigned to accomodate the patient's request, but as I got more confident in my skills I had (and have) no problem infomring my patient that unfortunatley patients do not get to select their caregivers at this facility. They are of course welcome to go elsewhere for their care. It's 2020 and we are still dealing with this same @#$%
  3. Sorry to hear this. Our system is enacting a policy that allows you to use paid admin leave if you have to quarantine. Let's hope more do this than force nurses to use their precious PTO.
  4. This is a rapidly evolving situation and we are in uncharted waters for the most part. Not everyone is able to 'call in' and each parent has to decide what type of child care situation is palatable to them. Just because it is a 'pop up' daycare does not mean that it will be chaotic. there is nothing to stop you from asking further questions regarding the staff credentialing and experience. If this situation continues for the foreseeable future (which it looks like it will) parents will need to make decisions that work for them and their family situation.
  5. This early in your career you have time to forget this unfortunate adventure and start over. You may well have to suck up the hour-long commute for the time being and take a job at the other hospital. Work on being the best nurse you can be and hopefully, you can reapply in a year or so with stellar references. I wish you the best.
  6. Scammers are getting creative - we have to be vigilant. If I don't know the number I don't answer, if it's important they will leave a message.
  7. I hope it doesn't come to this. But it shines a light on the reality of many working Americans who do not have the luxury of paid time off. They are going to continue to work because they also need to eat.
  8. Just because they say they are reporting you to the BON does not mean that they will.
  9. Just wow! If this is the first time you missed, fight this tooth and nail. At this point, you really have nothing left to lose. I am praying the supervisor has a heart and shows you some mercy.
  10. Try an online educator at an accredited school. They do not work fixed hours and you will be able to work it around your current schedule.
  11. You are dealing with a problem that many parents face during school and into their careers. If you think that your medical exemption will fly give it a shot. This is only short-term (during your capstone) so perhaps you can pay someone to come to your home and stay with the kids during this rotation. Nursing is a 24/7 gig and if you haven't figured out reliable child care already you will have to face this problem again and again. Most places work 12-hour shifts, so this is going to be an issue.
  12. Sounds like you are good to go! You should also receive notification in the mail along with your license. You can also call the BON to verify your license.
  13. Hang in there - work your new job like a pro. The wheels of the BON turn slowly and there is always the chance that your old employer will not report at all. They may not want the BON sniffing around their mess. I am sorry that you have to go through this - but it will pass.
  14. I am assuming that you reached out to your employer to schedule a meeting? Did you do so in writing (email)? If so and they have not responded - I would let sleeping dogs lie. If you have already secured alternative employment I suggest you keep your head down, stash your coins just in case, and pray this all goes away. They are required to report to the BON if you are terminated (depending on your state) but what exactly is the charge? If you did not submit to any type of testing then time is on your side. The situation stinks!
  15. I am not in Australia, and not qualified to give legal advice. If this is true sounds like you need a lawyer and prayers...
  16. Most employers will only say if you worked there and if you are eligible for rehire. No specifics and you may not even have to use them as a reference. Admit nothing and keep looking for a new job.
  17. As you have managed to get this far in your career without taking the 'flu shot I suppose it is possible for you to continue without it. I would, however, caution that it is quite possible that you will be refused acceptance to clinical sites that have the right to mandate that all their staff are vaccinated. If you have a religious or medical reason for an exemption that might help your cause.
  18. Where can I submit my application? This place sounds perfect...
  19. The Board of Nursing's reason for existence is to protect the public period. That is why nurses learn early about defensive documentation, CYA, and liability insurance to protect their license and livelihood.
  20. I am no lawyer, but every place that I have worked - you cannot leave until someone else assumes the care of your patients. So yes - they can make you stay.
  21. I am sorry that you had to go through that trauma. Speaking up about things like this help to draw light on these situations which happen more often than we may think.
  22. I don't even know what to think about this - if it is true - it's a hot mess!! Dad needs to be supportive but the daughter needs to make her own decisions (and mistakes). Ditch the 'fiance', get a new job and figure out what SHE wants to do without the men in her life directing her path.
  23. Yes - do this! You can only benefit from the expanded opportunities this will bring. Take a deep breath and take it one day at a time - you can do this!
  24. Sounds like you may have to enforce some consequences to staff "shrugging off" your requests. If your supervisor is unwilling or unable to gain compliance he/she may be supportive of your efforts to do so. Sometimes it takes making an example of one employee to get the others to toe the line. Hopefully, you have policies and procedures in place that you can use to back you up? I would suggest some disciplinary action - verbal - progressing from there.
  25. Depending on your state's certification requirements, it is not looking good for you and your career choice. I would suggest that you wait to start school until you have cleared up your pending charges. You don't sound ready to take on the responsibilities the position requires.
