I am ready to dive into an online MSN program, I am not feeling the practicum requirement. Are there any schools out there that do not require a practicum with a preceptor? I am looking into nurse educator or informatics as my specialty. I am willing to put in the work but I would like to avoid the hassle of locating a site and a preceptor willing to work with me for 100+ hours for free. Any suggestions out there?

Hi KCMnurse, I am just curious if you ever made any headway with this ? I am currently in my MSN and struggling so bad with the practicum/preceptor issue that I am actually considering trying to transfer to another program where maybe I would't have such a hard time finding a preceptor. Let me know if you had any luck !
Thanks,
M
Unfortunately not. I bit the bullet and start a program next month. I am praying I can find a preceptor when the time comes.

Hang in there. The practicum is actually the heart of the program in which you get a chance to actually apply all those ideas you've learned. It also opens the door to actual career opportunities. Programs without practicums are pretty worthless - just a paper trail.
As you go through your courses, start looking around for potential preceptors. It's a complex process, in which the preceptor's employer has to have a contract with your school & this can take a while so don't leave it to the last minute. You may get lucky and find someone that worked with a previous classmate so the groundwork has already been done.
