  1. Cousin commited suicide..could use some prayers guys

Will pray for you. Psalms 147:3 "He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds."
  2. Why are RN's so fat!

Reminds me of a thread I read at the SDN...a doctor had posted asking how to get the nurses to like him...another doctor replied "give 'em donuts" this was followed by even more degrading posts from doctor's/med-students about overweight nurses and ...
  3. A friend from work was recently kicked out of the LVN program because she had an average of 74.4 and according to her, you must have at least a 75 at that particular school. I am planning on entering the LVN program here in Austin probably in Sprin...
  4. problems with coworkers...what do you do?

Let me guess, you work in a nursing home? I hate to tell you this but it's been my experience that you will work with far more of these types than any other. Just try to not let it get to you, be a good example and exhibit the kind of professiona...
  5. HELP! I DON"T WANT TO GO THROUGH CNA first...

I am a CNA, it's something I told myself I would NEVER do. Well, we all know how that goes. Anyhoo, I didn't care much for it at first but I think after a while you become sort of, desensitized to poop. At least I did. It's really not that bad...
  6. diseases common to nurses?

  7. Is LTC really this bad?

Yes, it really is. Constantly short-staffed, a lot of attitude problems are probably because of the stress caused from the patient/caregiver ratio....and you can pretty much count on being s*it on by family members and administration.
  8. Generational Gap in nursing?

I know exactly what you mean. It is frustrating enough putting up with that attitude at work, then to come onto the boards (as I have in the past) and see a thread titled "What's with these young things?" Etc. I think it would be interesting if ...
  9. Anyone else "caught" MRSA?

I've worked as a CNA in a NH for two years and am taking nursing pre-req's. About two weeks ago I got what I thought were shingles on my inner thigh. Long story short, things got nasty and it turns out I have MRSA. The medical assistant didn't giv...
  10. Major Depression and a Nsg Career

I would like to know if anyone out there has had a problem with Major Depression and Panic Disorder and has been able to finish nursing school. I've been on medicine for 5 years now...I started on Paxil then changed to Effexor XR, while it helps en...
  11. Pros vs. Cons of Geriatrics?

I did report this to my charge nurse and, to the weekend RN, my charnge nurse just shook her head as if to say, "that's awful" then went about passing her meds. The weekend RN told me she'd "leave the adon a note" which is her response to everythin...
  12. Major Depression and a Nsg Career

Thanks to all of you who replied, I've been encouraged. It's not so easy to talk about this sort of thing and your responses are appreciated.
  13. Pros vs. Cons of Geriatrics?

  14. Pros vs. Cons of Geriatrics?

Well, I commend anyone for wanting to help our elderly. But to be honest, working in a nursing home is no longer where I want to be. It's not because of the resident's, or so much the workload as it is the pure apathetic attitude of my higher-up...
  15. What was your HARDEST class?

The hardest class I have taken was A&P II Lab. A&P I was not that bad, but in particular in part II was the cardiovascular syst...so much information in such a short time...hope you have lots of time to cram. I know I needed it.
  16. That ain't my resident! I am dumbfounded...

I could not have said it better myself. To coorporate, it is all about the money. Our census is low right now (low 80's) So they have mandated that one nurse from each shift does not come in and one aide also. This leaves my whole wing with 40 re...
  17. How do you deal with lazy nurses??

Hey, LouisianaNurse...I know there will probably be a reply like "oh, I didn't mean it that way"...but your post is degrading to the younger generation of nurses. In your post, let's take out your "young nurses" and "this young thing" and try repla...
  18. shaving cream to clean dirty butts??

I became a CNA in May of 2004 and have worked for one nursing home since. During a conversation with my DON I mentioned that I saw one of the other experienced CNAs using shaving creame to provide peri-care. (I did not know this was against compan...
  19. resident falls

My LTC facility uses a bed alarm (a thin rectangular mat that is placed under the pts rear end while in bed). These are the biggest pain in the neck! They are ALWAYS going off for no reason, and they are loud enough to wake the dead in China. Many...
  20. Sick of it!!!

How true. It is so refreshing to read your post. After having most people turn their nose up at me after I tell them what I do for a living, I must admit that until recently, I've been ashamed of my job. CNAs will always have to deal with family...
  21. CNA appreciation :-)

I wasn't even aware that there was a CNA appreciation week/day. How often I hear the nurses at work call us their "girls". Nevermind the fact that most of the aides are at least 10 years older than the charge nurses. Am I the only CNA who finds t...
