U.S. surpassed 2 million persons Covid positive; 113,000 deaths --deaths will nearly double to 200,000 by September
TMB...Once again I must applaud your zest… But it reminds me of an old adage : “ If you could reason with reli...ous people there would be no reli...ous people”

Where do you stand on opening things up during the Pandemic?
Point is that the flu argument/nonsense is the apples to oranges comparison a vociferous minority loves to tout...Why not use the “Chewbacca is a wookey “ defense or a select read from Dr. Seuss...that’s my point.

Where do you stand on opening things up during the Pandemic?
SARS-CoV-2 is NOT the FLU Is this truth incomprehensible? This thread once again compels the invocation of Hitchens... ”That which can be proclaimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence “

Is anyone else holy crap concerned?
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: if we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We are no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back” Carl Sagan

Is the Coronavirus beginning the breakdown of our society?
Look to 80’s British film “Threads” (Nuclear Holocaust) details the fragility of human society/existence. I was just commenting to a close confidant in the ED the other day...if we are falling apart after a few weeks of “staying in” then we should all take extreme notice of how our “systems” pale in comparison to Mother Nature...

Contact after completion of monitoring program?
In my case they keep records for a certain number of years then those records are destroyed -that is essentially all I was told in the two or three sentence letter of completion… CONGRATS! And it does take a while for that “uneasy feeling“ to sort of dissipate. I’m about three months past my completion and still have that weird feeling every once in a while that I’m amazed that I don’t have to check in or go P into a cup...enjoy! Of course I was “free” and then C19 showed up! Ugh

Contact after completion of monitoring program?
Never ever ...not once Got a random letter of completion from somebody in the program I never had any interaction with ever for the entire four years I was involved… My “case manager/director of the program” who supposedly had my back not one time wished me well/or even offered their congratulations for my completion... pure and simple bs completion of a complete scam/ sham/mumbo-jumbo driven pseudoscientific horse$&@“ money making travesty

What is it like in your hospital right now?
Update: Major city hospital/trauma center-close to NYC Hospital/corporation attempted to make people reuse PPE-Union fought back-policy immediately discontinued. “Hazard pay“ initiated by hospital more as a CYA attempt by management-in actual reality it would most likely never be initiated based on current circumstances and how it was written. Still under-staffing/canceling/mandating more hours to full-time employees while having Perdiem’s fight over the crumbs Current staffing policies changing daily/sometimes shift by shift… Causing confusion among staff Employee testing basically at zero unless they are extremely ill-multiple employees walking around with the sniffles etc...and depending on what political bent they seem to have sometimes wear their masks sometimes don’t and some just don’t seem to care while others 100% care… Drive-through testing tent limited to the number of tests and results take days Most patients that come through emergency are C19 patients yet amazingly still a trickle of the “frequent fliers” with complete nonsensical complaints being allowed in because still no effective pre-triage tent/set up initiated MD/PA shifts and pay cut Due to the lack of staffing when things do get heated/busy things become dangerous and people are not clear as what to do/what not to do -not to mention LTC/similar facilities constantly send residents that they want tested knowing that we cannot test them in that capacity causing more danger for everybody as most every single facility that they are sent from has positive staff and residents Sometimes it feels very calm and sometimes it’s a cluster$&@“ Sadly some staff have become ill w/ C19 Sadly many of us exposed with no follow up because we have very little mass testing capacity...
-
Do you think some states are testing people less to keep various workforces (including nurses) intact?
Hmmm...while I agree with the statement concerning antibody testing, and that we will see a staggering number of people that have already been exposed I am not so sure I believe with the “aren’t smart enough” notion. If the powers that be could get away with such a scheme/are getting away with such a scheme...You can bet that they are doing that very thing… Remember ultimately this is profits over people-Has been for decades and will continue as such.

Fed up!!
To the OP They are rabbit holes, you are in the twilight zone, and unfortunately you’re caught up in a money making machine regardless of COVID-19, regardless of reality/ logic/any semblance of “helping”… Unfortunately the decisions that you are now faced with are true and valid...I always suggest that people read the DODIS book concerning the fallacy/BS of the 12 step Mumbo jumbo And what you say concerning selling it all and going to live out in the woods/in isolation is probably not the worst idea I’ve ever heard concerning the current insanity surrounding the COVID-19 scenario… I just finished four years of a program that sucked my bank account and had me living on eggshells every minute of every day… All I can say is that I luckily finished the “program” almost days before this outbreak hit the region that I live in...I feel your pain… You can and will prevail over the insanity… Remember you are literally dealing with a machine that treats you only like a number and only for a way to make money Treat the machine with respect if you must so you can survive it

When does it end? I mean really end?
Yes… Same feeling here… Mine “Ended” mid January. Non-work related, savings decimated… And now as soon as that is completed I am dealing with C 19… The cushion would’ve been nice to take some time off to care for my elderly parents who are now in grave danger due to this pandemic…As an aside: the anti-climactic ending consisted of an emailed letter from a person I have never once met or interacted with ever during the entire four years… No follow up from the case manager or the director or anybody that had my “best interest at heart”

Applying for Jobs During COVID 19
I an supposed to start a job in May Hired before all of this became so intense several months ago-HR Stated the only major change so far will be that orientation will be “virtual“ it seems to me that it’s just basically going to be a let’s wait and see what happens kind of a scenario… Most of my shifts have been canceled or cut way back where I am currently working so it’s going to be a strange six weeks for sure…I suspect once things get really intense where I am currently working—they will—I suspect they won’t even have enough people to fill positions at this next juncture
-
What is it like in your hospital right now?
I agree “this is not a problem I expected to have” we are very close to NYC and all the extra/per diem shifts were just cancelled. Census low w/ daily shifts cancelled -daily updates/check-ins as needs change-testing tent very limited due to lack of test kits-Feels like they are keeping the extra staff ready/healthy before the hospital gets hammered.

Non-compliance with Social Distancing
I feel the same way you do… I am in the north east let’s just say… And my state has recently put a stay at home order in place etc... I can say this: basically nobody is paying attention to that or at least it’s a 50-50 split… Some people are very self-aware and very aware of the situation while other people just- I bet if you ask them wouldn’t even know what you were talking about… As a healthcare worker it makes my head want to explode!??? I’ve been around a while and I really don’t remember the IQ being so low in the general population or simply how self-centered selfish and arrogant the people of the United States are… Or perhaps I was just naïve and didn’t realize it or I realized it and just put it out in the back of my mind somewhere and didn’t think about it even though I experience that every day in the emergency department… Sad Me and several of my coworkers have been resigned to the fact that we are essentially on our own, the for-profit company that runs the hospital basically changes the PPE protocol at will based on availability, certainly not on science or evidence-based practice, And out in the general public the ignorance reigns supreme… My best bet is to just look out for myself my family and those closest to me. I will say it brings up a lot of anger because boy would I just love to go over and hug and kiss my elderly parents and hug and kiss my friends and I work in an emergency department and I can’t do any of those things… So when I see people just acting like this is nothing it’s no big deal and basically telling the F word to the whole world… You know what I mean… Thanks for your post

What is it like in your hospital right now?
Similar-We are close to NYC: approx 3 hrs-hospital on lockdown… No visitors… Keeping away all the people that call in the ambulance for a broken finger nail etc. etc. etc.… Seems like people are afraid to come to the hospital right now…The effect is now the ED is split between r/o COVID and really sick Trauma/MI/Stroke etc...Drive through testing center shut down because no tests left… Most r/o COVID patients are sent home and told to self isolate…Current data on lab results seem to be accurate, but without a test how the heck are you supposed to know??? PPE is holding up under rationing, but for how long? Very few admits for COVID...yet… Keyword seems to be “yet” Definitely difficult to get a shift as a Perdiem as our census is even lower and they are canceling shifts… We all fear this is the quiet before the storm… Most hospitals in the general region are experiencing the same-Perhaps the worst thing is that multiple doctors/nurses/technicians were coming to the drive-through test center to be tested because their hospital would not test them. Yup

AT A LOSS - COVID High Risk Nurse
I believe we are all entering into a decision by decision moment by moment time. Clarity comes with each step. Unfortunately I believe we are all in the position that there is no absolute right answer and there is no absolute wrong answer. Look at every decision forward… For whatever that means for you and your situation… As one small victory added to the next. Momentum is the key

COVID-19 and Nursing Ethics
I’m Having a similar ethical/moral dilemma. Currently working in the emergency department for the last several years and my hospital is now getting hit by this thing. I am the primary caregiver for my elderly parents and I made the decision to not work during this acute period. I cannot take the chance of being quarantined/isolated/any of the above because my parents will literally have nobody to help care for them and then what? While I am not worried about my own health in particular because I’ve been dealing with blood guts disease for the last 10 years in the emergency department the cardiac unit etc. I do not think I could live with myself if I brought something home that could potentialy kill my parents. I want to be in this fight and I’ve never ever felt the weight of a decision as I have with this one. I realize we all have families and many of my coworkers have children and parents they are dealing with...I could find no criteria with which to be satisfied with a decision in either direction and at this moment I’m choosing my parents. I live day today with a ball of anxiety inside my gut thinking I’ve made the wrong decision thinking I’m not helping in this battle I vacillate from feeling like a coward to a hero to my family. Fortunately my coworkers are supportive

Vent/rant on Nature of public forums:
My 2 cents...like many of the "non" science/evidence based "non" sense that is shoveled out in most degree programs these days...therapeutic "touch" magical singing bowls...religion...etc...etc...etc...I would only say if it works for you, then that's great! Like broken heart syndrome, mind affecting the body is real...but...please keep it out of my backyard...my interpretation of "gratitude" (for example) may be vastly different than yours and let's be real: That which can be proclaimed without evidence can (and must be in the name of human advancement!!!) Can be dismissed the same...

Uds 1 day before completion!
Congrats on completion! We must all never forget...from inception these "programs" had to do with one thing and one thing only...money...glad you are shut of these miscreants and can move on in FREEDOM!
