Most new grad positions should have been filled for Dec grads last year but postions for May grads should open up in March-ish.
  8. New Grad NICU in Houston

As for other options for Houston NICUs, there is Woman's Hopsital of Texas in the med center, St. Joseph Medical Center downtown, MANY outlying Hermann NICUs other than the Medical Center. Cypress-Fairbanks, Oakbend, erm...can't think of any more rig...
  9. New Grad NICU in Houston

Definitely don't move here w/o a job lined up. Having NICU experience in school as my capstone course I think helped me out.

  11. Frustration with the board of nursing

After I graduated, my school never sent my ATT and I had no clue...so I graduated in May and couldn't even sit for NCLEX until August. And jasy, they are here to serve the public, not the nurses...at all.

  14. TPN question

In NICU with run a lot of stuff with TPN/IL and piggyback IVFs into TPN.. but we change out the TPN and and all tubing running with anything with dextrose in it q24h. I'm not sure what is the "norm" on adults for changing lines.
  15. Gossiping in the hospital

It drives me batty and makes me wonder what they say about me?? I'm really quiet and don't socialize with my coworkers really outside of work (it seems most like the bar scene if they're around my age and those older than me have the family life) so ...
  16. extension feeding tube use

Same on my unit. And Kangaroo bags are changed q4h if it's continuous and with every feed if they're on bolus. However, when they go home, they get a bag a day or something of the sort... ??
  17. Premie/Infant ID Bracelets

Each of our babies has a name card on the crib or isolette. We put a scannable sticker behind the card. The baby also has an ID band on but they are not scannable.
  18. San Antonio, Austin, or Houston

Houston is supposedly the highest paying area for RNs in regards to cost of living. We do have places nearby to kayak and mtn biking trails, shooting ranges - I do it all!
  19. any Nurse techs in the Houston Area???

I worked as a Student Nurse Associate for a summer externship at SLEH in the Med Center during nursing school. I think you have to have two semesters down first. It was MUCH better than any clinical experience I had in school and you get paid more th...

  23. Is LOA the right answer?I

I've been through a LOT of stress and life changes the past 1.5 years (including a personal hospitalization), but I am part time and live right near family so that got me through it. I do somewhat understand how you feel though and it's NOT a good fe...
