  1. LTC Pharmacy Switch?

Hi! I work for a mid-size organization and we are working on switching pharmacy providers. Has anyone gone through this? What did transition/implementation look like? Our company is spread across 2 states with multiple sites.
  2. RN->BSN ODU Teletechnet/Online

Anyone in the program? A graduate? Advice? Are you doing it FT or PT? I'll be working FT while I work toward my BSN and I hope to get into their MSN program if all works well. Thanks!
  3. My online shopping reviews - please share yours!

I usually order from Lydia's. Shipping isn't bad, free over 50. Excellent customer service. If Scrubs n Beyond has a clearance item in my size & their long sleeve ts are on sale I'll try to run up 125 for free shipping otherwise I hate Smart post...
  4. Lord of fairfax community college

I suggest you look at the VBON action on that campus.
  5. Best Scrubs for the Money?

I love my jockey scrubs but they are a bit pricey too! Otherwise I wear urbane/landau
  6. Finding scrubs for a big guy

I worked with some bigger men at a previous job. Their scrubs had a flying stethoscope logo. Aviator scrubs I think
  7. Scrub skirts Nurses

A coworker of mine wears scrub dresses. She is a short gal also. She orders a ton at a time. Hers are the Cherokees
  8. RN->BSN ODU Teletechnet/Online

    I love the program
  9. New Grad in ICU

Congrats! Tonight I begin week 16 of my 16 week ICU internship. We had structured courses for each body system, and had focused patients (whenever possible) assigned to us during those units. You will get to know your facility's soft stops and hard s...
  10. Is this what night shift really does to us?

This very topic is plaguing our scheduling committee! We don't have enough straight night staff, so the rest of the shifts are divvied up equally amongst the rest of us. That means no one is straight day shift anymore (except 1 person who no one know...
  11. Precepting the Preceptor

Morning All! I just recently finished a 3 month Internship for new grads in the ICU. I'm almost done with my Preceptorship in the CCU and then I'll move out into our Cardiac Stepdown Unit (VATs, CEAs, UFEs, s/p PCIs, drip titration, etc). My primary ...
  12. Triage: Documenting Ambulance Handover.

Here in VA we are required to leave a copy of our EMS run report with the patient's chart in the ED. As an ICU nurse, I appreciate being able to reference the scene notes, but if I don't have them it doesn't change the way I treat my patient. It's th...
  13. Appying to other states without license in those states

It isn't required at my facility. They even help you transfer your license, but if it doesn't work you lose your offer.
  14. Should I still apply here?

2 cohorts before me a nursing student was admitted voluntarily during nursing school, while her class was supposed to do their psych clinicals. We have very few psych facilities available in this area and the school had them do videos and other work ...
  15. Clinical tidbits I wish someone would've told me.

Thanks for the clarification Esme! I do tend to be in our Neuro/Trauma ICU more than the other units.
  16. Clinical tidbits I wish someone would've told me.

I'm a new grad too, almost off of Orientation and here's the 1 thing I never thought would get to me: brain death testing. I've worked many codes, dealt with many Hospice patients at the end of life, but clinically brain dead patients mess up my day....
  17. We have a long way to go as health care providers

wish_me_luck I feel for you. I too live in VA (close to multiple states) and I have a friend who has a couple mental illness dx assigned to her, but the VBON was nice to her as well and she's been a CNA for many many years. I saw, probably 10 years a...
  18. New RN medication assessment

I've not taken the NLN, but we had to take the BKAT on day 1 and will take it again at the end of our Internship. It was a general critical care knowledge exam. We had a separate medication calculation/administration exam as part of our GNO week.
  19. Ethical/Personal Dilemma - What would you do?

The class ahead of me in nursing school had some issues with students cheating and attempted to kick the students out of the program. Some lawyers and proceedings later they each ended up in with my class (1 year behind). These same people have now g...
  20. Is an Associate's degree a waste of time?

I graduated in May with an ADN, and like many others have mentioned found employment in the acute care setting. My hospital is Magnet, and therefore has a push for BSNs, but they will do tuition reimbursement and have worked out discounts for local a...
  21. I'm a recent grad (May '12) in a gigantic Internship. I'm in Cohort 2 of 3 and the Education Coordinator has done a variety of things to help us feel more welcome: 1. Came to General Nursing Orientation (for the whole system) and gave us a care packa...
  22. Are you in the acute care setting? Have they set up an "action plan" or some sort of task list for you that outlines what they expect and in what time frame? If not, then at your next meeting I'd have my concerns written down and ask for some sort of...
  23. Sedation in ICU... your opinions/ experiences?

We have nursing driven Sedation protocols (fentanyl, dilaudid, versed, diprivan), we use CAM-ICU, Richmond Agitation Scores, BIS monitoring, and a Train of Four to assess our paralyzed/sedated patients. We have daily SBTs, and occasionally use Preced...
  24. Clinical Nurse Leader, what is it exactly?

I realize this is an old thread but I had 2 BS (Math & Biology) and chose to go the ADN route (for economic reasons). I had 12 years critical care transport/prehospital experience prior to entering nursing school. All of these things were very he...
  25. International Editions of textbooks

I've done undergrad IE textbooks and my wallet thanked me! I haven't had a single B&W IE textbook, but the formatting was a little different (different page numbers or the picture was on a different page than in the US edition). Best of luck to ...
