Precepting the Preceptor

Morning All!

I just recently finished a 3 month Internship for new grads in the ICU. I'm almost done with my Preceptorship in the CCU and then I'll move out into our Cardiac Stepdown Unit (VATs, CEAs, UFEs, s/p PCIs, drip titration, etc). My primary preceptor is great and she's been super helpful because she got her start in an inner-city stepdown unit. I had another preceptor for a few shifts because of scheduling/census issues and it was not an experience I'd like to repeat. The only problem is that that alternate preceptor is floating out to be our Charge (with a team) for a few months. She is of the "trial by fire" and overall nurses eat their young school of thought. I try to roll with the punches, but when you are learning it's a bit hard to do so. Another fellow NG stepdown nurse has had similar experience with this person.

I voiced my concerns to my Manager, and she simply said "That's just the way ****** is". Really?

So my question on this Sunday AM is this: what is the best way to handle those with this particular belief in teaching? She'll be my primary resource in the stepdown unit unless the Rapid Response nurse happens to be hanging out (lol).
