  1. Hospital recommendations for volunteer experience

Hi! I would check MultiCare if any of their hospitals are near you (Good Sam, TG, Auburn, Covington). I volunteered at the ER at Tacoma General for a year, got my CNA, and then got a job there (I am also taking my nursing school prereqs). I think ...
  2. Just starting at 21

You are definitely not alone! I also started down the nursing route at 21 after finishing 4 years of business school and deciding I had no desire to do anything related to my major. I am about to start my second year of pre-reqs (I also needed my s...
  3. CNA job in a hospital

It is harder but not impossible without experience. I agree with the volunteering idea though. I volunteered in the ER for a year while I was in school and taking my CNA class. Like you I also didn't want to work at a nursing home because I had a h...
  4. A&P I Spring 2013

I'm taking A&P I as well. I was going to take micro too but decided against it because I just got hired full-time as a CNA and have another part-time job as well
  5. New cna

Congrats on passing your exam!! Woo!! :) Are you in LTC or a hospital? I've been a CNA for 3 days now (haha!) and I can already tell you pens, pens and more pens. You also might want your own personal hand sanitizer, lip balm, a small notepad and - ...
  6. How do you hold it together?

You guys were right. It's really not bad to very quickly wrap your brain around the "gross" stuff - I think I just hadn't been around it in awhile. As for being depressed...well yesterday I cried after my shift...but today I just put on my "big gir...
  7. How do you hold it together?

Hello! I was just hired at a LTC facility as a CNA. I start this week. I'm scared. I am pre-nursing, about halfway through my prereqs and need the hours for my nursing school application. When I did my clinicals at a nursing home I remember it be...

  10. How do you hold it together?

Thank you so much for your post! Yes, I definitely will need to keep my big-girl panties well-stocked I am a lot better at dealing with blood and other body fluids then, say, incontinent residents. As a nurse someday, I really look forward to workin...

  12. Statistics Fall 2012

I have taken statistics twice. The first time I took it was 4 years ago and I most recently took it again this past summer (for some reason the course I took the first time won't transfer to any of the nursing programs I am looking at-a major bummer...
  13. Hello all! I currently live in Washington state and think I would really like to relocate to the South. I'm in my 20s, have lived here my whole life and am looking for a change. I have visited the South before and love it for many reasons, includi...
  14. Advice on Nursing Schools in the South

Thank you Katie! Your message was very helpful :) I was wondering about the healthcare in the more rural areas...and I saw that Mississippi has one of the lowest salaries in the country for RNs, so maybe that one is not the best choice! I do have a...

Yes, I am single haha :) Thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate the advice and will be sure to check out those schools.
  16. CNA State Test

Yes, most likely, but don't worry about the time, really. Just concentrate on going slow enough so you don't mess up! My examiner set her stopwatch for 20 minutes so we would know when we only had 5 minutes left, however she said it doesn't normall...
  17. Hello everyone! I just applied for a position in the ER that is 5:00pm to 3:30am. Right now I am taking 2 online classes (not a big deal), but in the Fall I will be taking two lab classes (chem and bio, not online). If I was to get the job...is this ...
  18. Balancing school and working the night shift?

Thank you so much! That does make me feel a lot better :) My time management is good and I don't even know if I'll get the job...but I just started stressing out about all of the "what ifs!" Thanks a bunch for your response!
  19. CNA State Test

Hahahaha teddy bears to make great patients! They never complain about ANYTHING!! When I took the test the supplies were close by and we were able to go back and forth if we needed to. It's better to grab it all if you can, and you can just put t...
  20. CNA State Test

the bedpan shouldn't be dirty when you first bring it to the client, but in short, yes you put on gloves before handling the bedpan (both times! so you change gloves 2x). also, you avoid exposing the client as much as possible when removing the bedpa...

  22. For pre nursing students

Your post was very encouraging! Thank you so much! Props to you for not giving up :) What kind of job did you get at the hospital in the meantime?
  23. What skills did YOU get at the CNA state exam?

When I took my test we found out the same day because our tests were faxed to Texas and faxed right back (I'm from Washington). I think if you don't get your results via fax it can take up to 2 weeks but I'm not positive.
  24. What skills did YOU get at the CNA state exam?

I took my exam in Washington last week. I got: 1. Count/Record Respirations (hehe yes!!) 2. Feeding 3. Change a bed pan 4. Clean Dentures
  25. CNA State Test

Hello! I just took my state exam last week. There are 24 skills ranging from bed baths to cleaning dentures to giving fingernail care. What worked best for me was writing out all the steps of each skill (even though we got a pamphlet, writing help...
