  1. Specialities in the Operating Room...

Everyone in this room is an O.R. nurse, just curious what TYPE of O.R. nursing you guys do? I am at a small hospital so we do genereral surgery (lap chole, hernia, bowel obstruction, etc) and Ortho cases such as ankle fx, removal hardware, knee/shoul...
  2. New Grad-Hired for OR-Any advice?

Yes- definitely do not take things personally. Ask questions!!! If you don't know something, speak up/ask! What type of cases will you be scrubbing/circulating on?
  3. Circulators-do you ENJOY your position?

I like circulating-- it's very busy in the begining and in the end. I also scrub too which is fun as well!
  4. Cnor Exam

Alexander's Care is a great book!! I haven't used it for studying for the CNOR but it was used for my perioperative nursing certificte course...LOVE IT!
  5. Can a surg. tech. "circulate" a case -give medications?

not sure how your techs circulate- that is a registered nurses position. they are not trained like a RN, so they should not be going this. they are trained in the scrub role. that's scary that your hospital allows this.
  6. Can a new grad get hired in the OR and other questions?

Hi!! I am a 2 year B.S.N RN in the O.R..love it. I also do PACU and Endoscopy. O.R is part of perioperative nursing. I actually went to take a 3 month perioperative nursing certificate course to help me learn more about this and better my chances...
  7. Is it weird that I love wound care?

:yeah:THose NOT in nursing do not understand anything (most of them don't). It's not werid at all. You should specialize and be a wound care/ostomy nurse. Seems like you would be a good fit for it!!! Best of luck.
  8. how much do you make an hour/year?

what do you make an hr..not including overtime? curious.
  9. how much do you make an hour/year?

I'm an RN with B.S.N. I have almost 2 years experience (few more weeks). I just started my work in O.R/Endoscopy/PACU. (i used to work on the floor). I make $32.08/hr. No holidays/weekends. Just call .
  10. Why does everyone seem to want to work L&D?

because it's relaxing, there are cute babies and everything is pink! :) hehe jk...I dunnoo..seems like it would be nice to do at some point in time..
  11. What attributes do you need as a OR nurse

Need to be strong willed ( some surgeon's can be arrogant). Don't let them get to you. Also, good with technology, have to be quick! If is a scrub /surgeon asks for something they need it fast!
  12. Looking for my favorite scrub hat...know of any sellers?

I really like this lady's scrub hats. I met her in MA too! http://www.etsy.com/shop/themaddesthatter also like Blue Sky scrubs!!
  13. I love being an OR nurse because . . .

I love it because it's 1 pt at a time, no call bells, you get to see human organs!! :)
  14. ideas-ambulatory surgery set up

how are you searching right now? try going to google or some search engine and type "same day surgery or ambulatory nursing", etc.
  15. ideas-ambulatory surgery set up

that's how it is where I am.. We are a small community hospital, 47 beds. We have 2 O.R, PACU, ambulatory area. I am trained in O.R (scrub/circulating), PACU, Endoscopy, Ambulatory, pre-op, putting IV's, etc. It's nice when you can do it all ! mayb...
  16. Well you're not an OR nurse

People like that are pathetic and feel they need to put others down. She's not even a Registered Nurse! She's one to talk. I myself am an O.R. nurse, and also do pre-op (small hospital), there is no reason for her to put you down.
