  1. Has anyone ever NOT been accepted to frontier?

I'm starting to freak out writing this $100 check! I want to do this SO bad, but I have no L&D experience (I've been trying so hard to get a job there!) Just being a charge nurse in subacute care for 1.5 years. I had a GPA higher than 3.0 at m...
  2. Transferring from another unit?

I've been on tele for a year (SNF for 2 years before that) and I'm ready to start applying to any and every posted L&D position until I land one, ha. I want to stay in my hospital, but I don't know the first thing about trying to transfer units....
  3. does this sound extremely unsafe or is this typical??

I work on tele with 5-6 patients and no monitor tech, sometimes no patient care aide's either.
  4. Has anyone ever NOT been accepted to frontier?

  5. I worked in LTC for almost 2 years, because hospitals here weren't really hiring new grads when I graduated. Then, there was a huge demand for tele nurses in all the hospitals around here, so I applied and got interviews and hired at each one! (I onl...
  6. Policy on pain medications and patients leaving the floor?

  7. Policy on pain medications and patients leaving the floor?

Hmm, we have to have an order if the patient CAN leave the floor. We never let them leave because we are responsible for their health. There have been two instances that I can think of that I've gotten orders for a patient to leave the floor. One was...
  8. Low Acuity Floors

Umm I would say probably TCU, rehab, maybe behavioral health. Those patients trend to have a lower acuity. As for med surg, I think that's kind of hit or miss. I wouldn't consider it low acuity, but I wouldn't always consider it high acuity either
  9. Med-Surg floor sucks, and nursing unions

It goes back and forth here. When I graduated two years ago no one was hiring. Now, at least at my two employers plus another hospital, they are practically begging people to apply... Or it could be no one wants to work at these places, haha. But rea...
  10. struggling with med surg expectations

That makes me so sad that they treated you that way. :-( I have been a nurse for two years in a SNF and then started working on tele. They gave me ten weeks of orientation, and i didn't start taking on 4 patients myself until the 7th week! (full time...
  11. Ever work with a broken finger?

I broke my finger yesterday. Got stitches and a splint. I work Tuesday and just wondering how this is going to go over. I want to work, but when I call them tomorrow to give them a heads up I have a feeling they are going to tell me I can't. I don't ...
  12. Ever work with a broken finger?

Thanks everyone! Just wanted to give an update. I called Monday morning first thing (was scheduled to work Tuesday) and they said that with an open wound I couldn't work until the doctor gives the okay, which should be this Saturday when I get my sti...
  13. Med-Surg floor sucks, and nursing unions

I KNEW you had to be from Indiana when you posted your pay. I'm in Indiana and it's exactly the same at my hospital.
  14. Has anyone ever NOT been accepted to frontier?

I wanted to give an update on my old post here, I was not accepted. It was because the school I graduated from was state accredited, and they only allow nationally accredited. I thought that my school was nationally accredited but after many tears an...
  15. A few questions about applying to Frontier

I finally decided today that Frontier is for sure where I want to go. So I looked up application deadlines and the next one is in February. Since this is cutting it close, is it okay to go ahead and send in my online application while I gather my ref...
  16. New LPN/RN Pay Rate

I was born at ball :) A couple of years ago my aunt said they start new nurses out at 23/hr. That's 6 more than just an hour and a half north!
  17. Rhythm interpretation a fib

Sorry I quoted the wrong person.
  18. Rhythm interpretation a fib

A fib is defined as an irregular rhythm, narrow qrs, AND no p waves.
  19. Breastfeeding/pumping and 1st yr nursing school

I had a baby while in school. There was actually a lactation room on the floor of the hospital I was at during clinicals and my instructor was all for me using it. :) As for class, I pumped during breaks. I was able to breast feed for 10 months whil...
  20. Working Easter anyone?

Those who celebrate Easter, who else has to work tomorrow? Do you get paid holiday pay? Our hospital doesn't pay holiday pay for Easter but it's counted towards our one spring/summer required holiday. I volunteered since we don't do anything in the a...
  21. Nights and weekends as neede

I work only days at my hospital, with a weekend shift twice a month. I'm never required to do an evening or night shift.
  22. New Grad nurse @SNF...now on verge of quitting.

I couldn't find a job after graduating from school, so I eventually took a job at a SNF. The first six months were very hard. I cried a lot, I got off hours later than I expected to, and I dreaded going to work. Around the year mark, I was offered a ...
  23. How much do you owe in student loans?

Also wanted to add my husband got a full scholarship for his schooling so it helps that we have never owed anything for him.
  24. How much do you owe in student loans?

About 55k. I went to school four years before deciding on nursing, so then I added on two more. My payment is $260 a month which we easily afford. But when I go back for my bachelors I'm hoping to either pay out of pocket or tuition help from my hosp...
