  1. I'm in a BSN program in New York. I would like to get my RN license in California as well (where I'm from). I don't want to sound novice, but can you have a RN license in more than one state at a time? Do I have to take the NCLEX in New York first si...

    Hi... I just started my preceptorship (shadowing) on a cardiac floor of of a busy NYC hospital and I'm a month until graduation. One thing I'm not so good at and nervous about having to do is give and take report, but everything else is going well. I...

  4. Help with taking/giving report!!

    Thank you! Yes... I am a visual person too. That's a problem in the morning because I haven't seen the patients and hearing report on them w/o seeing them first throws me off. I guess I have to learn to get around that. You gave me a good outline th...
  5. Help with taking/giving report!!

    Thank you Tait!! I think I need to practice... Maybe to myself or nursing school friends.
  6. I'm just curious... I never thought the end would be near ((2 weeks-- then preceptorship!!)) I've sacrificed taking care of myself (mentally and physically) SO MUCH in nursing school. Did life get better for you when nursing school wrapped up? Maybe ...
  7. I do want to take ACLS, PALS, TNCC. A nurse in the ER I was shadowing suggested I take the classes b/c hospitals prefer not to pay to send you and it would be a bonus if I took them on my own. I don't mind continuing education. I hear you on the lear...
  8. Hi... I'm in NYC, but I am from CA (bay area). I have a lot of RN friends over there who received their ADN and still don't have jobs years later!! Its hard to believe! I don't think there is very much diff in ADN and BSN, but I hope BSN will help me...
  9. Thank you @ fmxkrazyone. I had a clinical professor tell me you don't really get comfortable for 5 years... So I think what your going through is normal. I was the same, not wanting to work on a med surg floor, but I think it is the most realistic "c...
  10. Thank you! Yay... That is SO good to hear! I'm so ready to be out of this never ending program!!! I forgot what life is like w/o this stress! Praying to be done-- in a few weeks!!! :}
  11. Hi Christine, I haven't had a day off either, between family tragedies and nursing school. I don't believe it will be this stressful even when I do have a job. Thank you, I look forward to breathing as well. :}
  12. Yes, I definitely will be planning a vaca!!
  13. Thank you!!! I definitely know it is not stress-free being a nurse, I am just so ready to be done with this program. It does seem intimidating to have patients of my own (on my own), but I will do my best and I feel so privileged to be given that res...
  14. Thank you!!! Ya I have those nightmares too... I wake up worried about tests and studying, I really do think it belongs in the category of PTSD! Now I just can't really believe it may soon be over!
  15. I am a nursing student in NYC, but I am originally from California. I will be graduating in May 2013 with my BSN. I visited my best friend living in Miami and I fell in LOVE with it (the culture and pace being in right in between CA and NY), so I'm m...
  16. Did you believe it to be fair or justified? I'm just wondering how often it really happens and what the reason would be.....
  17. I'm moving to Miami from NY when I graduate with my BSN in Spring 2013. Can you tell me anything good about working as a RN in FL? I've heard sooo many negative things!! Please tell me what there is to look forward to. Thanks, Lauren :)
  18. Just wondering. I know they all want you to have experience and here in NY BSN is required for many major hospitals.
  19. I (a nursing student close to graduation) took my dad to the ER for chest pain last night. (He suffered a MI). He was immediately treated by a group of very pleasant doctors. The male nurse who was caring for my father quickly got too comfortable bec...
  20. Is a nurse in the ER joking to a patient like this appropriate?!?

    Thank you. He was put on Lovenox. It's true. I do have anger I'm trying to displace on the nurse. :-/ but after reading the responses, I see he was actually doing a good job, so I'm just going to focus on my dad now. I wouldn't want to stress him wit...
  21. Is a nurse in the ER joking to a patient like this appropriate?!?

    Aww... Thank you :~} I wouldn't actually report him. I'm just wasn't sure correct procedure with IV's. I know it really does take intuition to be a nurse. He did make my dad relax a bit. :)
  22. Is a nurse in the ER joking to a patient like this appropriate?!?

  24. Is a nurse in the ER joking to a patient like this appropriate?!?

    So sweet :~} I will def will use this experience to treat families well and keep them informed. I know its real life experience that makes you a good nurse. I feel better knowing the IV leakage was normal. I just wish I learned more hands on in nursi...
  25. Is a nurse in the ER joking to a patient like this appropriate?!?

    Thank you very much :) I know my emotions are out of whack and i may be overreacting to the situation, which is why I am asking advice rather than acting on anything. I'm not sure what is normal for bleeding from IV's. They don't have us insert IV's ...
