  1. Hi all. I would like to ask all of you on your thoughts of me working on a Transplant, General Medicine floor. I just finished an interview and it seemed like they are interested in me. I am scared that I may not do well or survive this unit. I have applied for their newgrad program, however the actuall newgrad classes will start next Jan (their newgrad program are held only twice a year-- one in Jan and one in July). They will start me with a preceptor-- 4 wks on days and last 2 on nights which is the shift that I will be hired on. The advantage I'm told by the recruiter is that by the time I do go the class on Jan, I will have hands on experience already and the classes would be more meaningfull. And I guess thats sounds true. What do you all think about this?? Also, I graduated nsg school 5 yrs ago and didnt go right away into the profession because I was pregnant and I wanted to raise my baby myself and not by a babysitter. I have been a patient care assistant for the last 2 yrs so I think it will help me but I am worried that being out of school for 5 yrs will affect my performance. :uhoh21: I passed my boards 2 months ago and I'm ready to start my nsg career which I love. Do you all think it's a good idea for me to start in a transplant, generel medicine floor considering my situation?? Any advice I would deeply appreciate. Thank you for your time and God Bless.

  3. Hi all. Does anyone know how is the NewGrad training program at California Pacific Medical Center in san francisco (pacific campus) is?? Has anyone here ever worked for CPMC or know of anyone who has and have any opinion about this hospital? Anyone here gone through their training program?? Also, I know that nurses at CPMC are not in a UNION and I don't know if this is something that is good or bad?? Thank you for your comments/help/suggestions and your time.
  4. Hi all. I would like to inquire if anyone has done, or know of anyone who has done, the Kaiser permanente (San Francisco) NewGrad training program. The nurse recruiter of san francisco kaiser told me that the Med-Surg program would be 6 wks and I guess that sounds ok. Anyone has any opinions on this? Anyone in here have worked at the San Francisco Kaiser hospital?? I have heard from several former nurses that they didn't like working for Kaiser. They said working for kaiser was just too hard--- it seems like their license was on the line like for ex. from unsafe staffing to pt ratio. When I floated I met another former kaiser nurse who did their newgrad program (2 yrs ago) but quit after 2 months working for them. She said she didnt get much training and support and just plainly didnt like it. She also said she was constantly bombarded also with unsafe number of patients (nurse to patient ratio). I'm confused and dont know what to do. Should I go for Kaiser's newgrad training program? Has anyone worked for Kaiser in SF? How's the staff? The management?? Is Kaiser notoriously know for doing this unsafe nurse to pt staff ratio?? Thank you all for your time and response.
