  1. I passed at Grady this weekend!

Oh my goodness, I still can't believe it. I passed at Grady this weekend, first time with no repeats. I'll get a journal posted on here as soon as I am over my PTSD.
  2. Grady journal July 2011

Here it is. Sorry for the length, I tried to think of everything because I remember reading journals to prep for the CPNE and every little detail is helpful. CPNEGrady.doc
  3. Grady journal July 2011

nope. i have never worked anywhere but private duty and hospice, and that was 4 1/2 years ago. no hospital experience outside of clinicals back in 2004. it definitely can be done! hang in there.
  4. Grady journal July 2011

all i did was the online workshop. no mock pcs or anything like that. i hit the study guide pretty hard as well as the workshop and that was about it.
  5. Grady journal July 2011

I recommend doing anything through Sheri! If it weren't for her online workshop, I would have been totally lost throughout this whole thing!
  6. Grady journal July 2011

Those are my mnemonics: "scab" for safety S - siderails up C - call bell in reach A - Apply brake to bed B - Bed in low position "I think of a cow in a tie died shirt having a post traumatic stress disorder breakdown" for 20 minute check. H - Handwas...

AOC is Area Of Care. That is what the CE/Clinical Examiner will assign to you, to do for your patient.
  8. Grady journal July 2011

I didn't want a lot of flipping back and forth so I put all of my mnemonics for 20 minute check, safety, mobility, fluid management on the fluid management page of the kardex packet. Then on the back of my packet I wrote my grid with AOC's and a few...
  9. Grady journal July 2011

They will allow a clipboard, but it will be really awkward to carry around because there aren't many places at all that you may set your paperwork. It just worked much better to fold mine in half long-ways and keep it in my pocket for quick referenc...
  10. Grady journal July 2011

Oh, I forgot. At the beginning after I introduced myself and the CE and told them that I would be working with them for a little while, I pulled my paper out of my pocket and held it up to show the pt. and said "You may see me writing on my paper he...
  11. Grady journal July 2011

Definitely plan for interruptions, if you get through without interruptions then count your blessings because they are rare. The kardex will specify reposition, or abulate in room, or ambulate in hallway. Really just depending on how much your pt. ...
  12. Grady journal July 2011

I turned my application in on April 1st, and it was sometime toward the end of May before I was sent a date. It was the exact date I requested though.
  13. Grady journal July 2011

I decided to do everything that could be done while the patient was lying in bed first, 20 minute check, safety check, IV check, PVA, O2 Man., anything that the pt doesn't have to reposition for. Also, I planned to ambulate either before or after Re...
  14. "Leavin' on a jet plane"

I'm headed to the airport. Please all you prayer warriors, think of me this weekend.
  15. "Leavin' on a jet plane"

Thanks so much to everyone! All your thoughts and prayers are so very much appreciated. I passed all my labs, no repeats. Passed PCS #1 & 2 today, no repeats. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I will be a graduat...
  16. "Leavin' on a jet plane"

Wow! You guys are awesome! Thanks so much. I'm in the process of setting up my lab stations now. I'll keep you posted.
  17. Rob's CPNE videos

I have heard a lot of complaints about this same thing (especially people with Mac's), which is why I opted out of using him. I loved the workshop I did! Don't know what I'd do without it.
  18. Excelsior HELP

Oh ho ho yeah! Better yet, CLEP your pre-reqs ($77 and your advisor will give you a list of what can be clep'ed) and for information literacy, contact Penn Foster for their course ($105 and can be done in a day). For the Nursing requirements you wi...
  19. Solve this plz- 155/hr to gtts/ml

Ooop, just saw above where you put this was all the information you were given. Was it in the study guide or some other source. I don't understand why this problem was given to you, it's not workable.
  20. Solve this plz- 155/hr to gtts/ml

Hmmm....What was the med order? Was it 155 mL to be administered over 1 hour with a 15 drop set? That would be an odd order, but if that was the case then the calculation would be 39 gtt/min. Would you happen to be trying to figure this to put on ...
  21. Does anyone elses brain hurt??

He truly is! I tell everyone I got the very last good one out there. Sorry gals!
  22. Solve this plz- 155/hr to gtts/ml

It appears that you are trying to convert an ICD setting into a gravity flow. ICD settings and gravity flow are calculated in two different ways: ICD = Volume to be admin. (mL) X 60 (min. in an hour) / Minutes to be infused Gravity = Volume to be adm...
  23. Question about shift differential

I was wondering, if base pay for a new grad is $18 an hour and shift differential is $3.50 for nights and $2.50 for weekends; let's say you work weekend nights, would that be $18 + $3.50 + $2.50 for a total of $24 per hour, or is it just one or the o...
  24. Does anyone elses brain hurt??

Sure am! I can't believe what all I was missing out on just by studying the study guide alone!
  25. TTC - Hohenwald LPN

    Oooops! Sorry about that.
