Hi, I highly encourage you to go for it. I finished NP school at age 54. I've had no problem getting jobs. I plan to work until at least 67. I love being an NP so much that even after 67 I will probably continue part time.
With my last job I did primary care in patients homes, and at my current job I do Medicare Wellness Visits-in office. I hate them because there is no real learning or building of clinical skill set. These do not require a masters-prepared nurse; ma...

Thank you, I really appreciated your response. Matter of fact, I started looking for a different job and accepted a position today at the local hospital on the Hospitalist service. In my letter of resignation, I stated the new position will allow m...
I joined a healthcare organization several months ago to see walk in's and conduct video acute care visits. Unfortunately, the patient volume is much lower than expected. To fill my time, I was asked to do Medicare Wellness visits and was told I wou...
I'm glad to see these latest comments. I was losing hope too. I'm in tier 3 so fingers crossed the funding will make it that far. This would be life changing.

I used to work in human resources prior to becoming a nurse. It is always best to be interviewed toward the end, if not the last appointment. This way, you are the freshest on the minds of the interviewers. Here are my tips: The first 2 minutes ma...

I too work in a small rural hospital at an ER with only 5 beds. I learned so many new skills - as you said, mixing my own meds, giving RT treatments, obtaining EKGs, starting my patients IVs and drawing blood from them, obtaining ABGs - things I nev...
I go by Mutt's Wife because after I went on a serious diet and lost weight, my husband was being complimentary and started calling me Shania - referring to how good Shania Twain looks. Shania was married at the time to Mutt Lange. (I came up with t...

Great topic! The whole family sacrificed while I worked and went to nursing school, which took me 5 years. So Mutt and I agreed a family vacation to the Emerald Beaches of Florida was in order. I graduated on a Saturday; we motored out Sunday morn...
Had an interview 8/15/11 for an outpatient clinic RN position; felt it went very well. The interviewing manager gave me her business card and asked me to call and let her know if I was interested in the position; stating they would be calling back a...

Thanks to both of you for your posts! I did place a phone call this a.m. and left a message on the voicemail of the lady who interviewed me, but no response. I am not aware of a nurse recruiter in this particular situation since the person who call...

In my former life (before being an RN) I worked in the HR department of a hospital. My experience was the HR people have little say in who gets the job or who gets an interview. Their role is to organize the resumes, schedule interviews, do backgro...

I had the same problem while working on a telemetry stepdown unit. Here are a few tricks I found: 1) Go off somewhere quiet, where your patients and family can't see you if possible, and make yourself do some charting - even if you don't have time t...

Remember, each of us had a first day at clinical and lived to tell about it, and it's okay to not have had any experience. I'll never forget my first day; I was so worked up and it only turned out to be looking through charts and getting a tour of t...
