VA hiring question

Published

Had an interview 8/15/11 for an outpatient clinic RN position; felt it went very well. The interviewing manager gave me her business card and asked me to call and let her know if I was interested in the position; stating they would be calling back around 08/26/11. The day after the interview I emailed a thank you note to both she and the other person who interviewed me and expressed my interest in the position. I have yet to hear anything. I sent a 2nd email to the interviewing manager and asked if the job had been filled and also left a message with HR as to whether the job has been filled. Still no response.

1) Does the VA send out letters to those who interviewed and were not hired?

2) Is it unusual to not hear anything for a few weeks after an interview?

I would just love to have this job. I appreciate any input. Thanks!

It is hard to give you exact specifics as every VA is different but this sounds about right. Have you tried calling instead of emailing? They send out letters to some people others get caught in limbo as it just takes forever to get hired. They may have liked you and put your file in the "selected' bin however it could take weeks or months to get funding or approval to bring you on. Honestly I would make other arrangements and try to keep a door open for them when they do call.

It took a 3 month before I was told I was hired. I did follow up with the nurse recruiter and she keeped me informed. I would not call HR nor the Nurse manager...call the nurse recruiter, that is her / his job to follow up :) Just my thoughts

Thanks to both of you for your posts! I did place a phone call this a.m. and left a message on the voicemail of the lady who interviewed me, but no response. I am not aware of a nurse recruiter in this particular situation since the person who called to set up the interview told me she did not know if the position was filled and transferred me to HR (who also never called back). Oh well, I will just sit tight and hope for the best.

The person who set up the interview didnt know if the position was filled??? Ahhh man, welcome to the Govt! The last thing you want to do is start harrasssing them but you should try to find out if they are using contractors or travelers. If they are, contact the agency they use and apply that route.
