  1. My Nursing Essay

Please forgive the length, hopefully someone can give me some feedback on where and how I can cut back a bit. The school I hope to attend wants to know experiences since last attending school (I assume high school, 20+yrs ago!), reasons for wanting ...
  2. Being an ugly nurse

I'm sorry, but this has got to be one of the most lame threads on this site. We're seriously rallying around the "ugly" nurse to make themselves feel better because they've got other abilities that make them a good nurse?? Kind of like "everyone ge...
  3. Why did you choose oncology?

I'm not an oncology nurse yet, but I cannot think of another specialty where my heart belongs more than in oncology. I lost my mom at the age of 47 to breast cancer and lost my dad at the age of 58 to lung cancer.
  4. D-U-N - done!!!

My husband has been a long haul truck driver for many, many years. Do you realize how many crazy drivers he has to deal with each day, crazy drivers who put HIS life at risk? And it's only get worse as time goes on thanks to texting. Believe me, y...

  6. So check this out....

Great story, mindlor. It's always refreshing to read something positive about the profession from time to time.
  7. Are nurses blue or white collar workers?

I'm pretty sure the blue collar bus driver who suddenly finds himself slipping and sliding down an ice covered highway in the middle of Winter with a bus load of passengers is going to disagree with you. When I think of a professional, I think of som...
  8. Once again.....I'm a "nurse".....

During my 9 years as a MA working in various offices (in a former life) I never, EVER once came across a MA that called herself "nurse"...unbelievable, but true...On the other hand, I came across countless patients and members of the general public w...
  9. How messed up is this?

Best post of the whole thread. Thank you.
  10. Ad for an MA program

Well I obviously struck someone's nerve, didn't I? Btw, I don't know many middle aged men (or even women) who are looking to settle for a basically minimum wage job in some doc's office somewhere so maybe advertising was on to something with that ad?...
  11. Ad for an MA program

Y'all realize that chick in the commercial was a paid ACTRESS, right??
  12. Why Is It That Everyone Thinks They're A Good Nurse?

    :yeah:
  13. The Mockery of Nursing

You aren't a nurse yet and haven't walked a mile in my shoes so therefore you....know nothing about anything. You aren't a nurse yet and haven't walked a mile in my shoes so therefore you....aren't capable of using proper English. You aren't a nurse ...
  14. The Mockery of Nursing

  16. The Mockery of Nursing

The same questions that have probably been asked over and over since the dawn of DWI's, NCLEX and stupidity....the only difference is that 20-30 years ago you didn't have the internet to display such questions for the whole world to see. So...yeah......
  17. So basically what you're saying is that you partook in the same obnoxious, "look at me, I'm someone special" type behavior mentioned throughout this thread...AND you're not even as much as a nurse to boot.... As a former MA who actually happened to b...
  18. I can't understand what you're saying!

I'm not a big fan of text speak myself, and if a poster starts to get obnoxious with it I simply move on. What I find a bit comical though is that the medical profession itself uses it's own unique brand of abbreviations not found in any proper Engli...
  19. All Those NPs with No Bedside Experience

    I can't help but agree 100%.
  20. front desk job at a medical office ?

100% agree with this. Back in my MA days I worked with a front desk girl who was tight with hospital personnel because she spoke to a lot of them on a daily basis scheduling appts for tests and such....She got the inside scoop on all sorts of hospita...
  21. I agree....sheesh.... Btw OP, there is Pinnacle Health in central Pa that still offer their "Become a Nurse" program. After a six month working period employees have the opportunity to go to school for nursing. During that time they have to still w...
  22. Nursing hours

  23. Can someone "link me up"? MA ? for PA

I'm a MA in Pa and I can tell you that the majority of clinics in my area have the telephones manned by personnel who not only are not nurses, but a lot who haven't even gone to school for medical assisting. Perhaps it's just because of our small, h...
  24. Penn State Hershey's Medical Center GN Residency 2012

Oh Jason, how I envy you! My ultimate dream is getting a residency spot in Hershey's cancer institute. Of course, I've got a ways to go yet (pre nursing here), but I just wanted to wish everyone great success at Hershey and welcome to central Pa! :)
  25. opinion on ICU Nursing Assistant for a student?

Wow................... I agree, stay with the position that offers the most flexibility and doesn't interfere with schoolwork...but if the ICU position can offer you that, then GO FOR IT...and if you happen to stumble upon a kick ass GN ICU residency...
