I've never used BSA either or ever had a Pediatrician use it. But I agree with the poster. First thing to do always is convert pounds to kilograms. Does anybody here use BSA in medication calculation?

This is the point I try to make to people all the time. Everybody talks about a nursing shortage! I tell them the ONLY shortage there is is a shortage of jobs!! Nobody around here believes me. But as I read this site, it only confirms it more.

I commented in another post, we have the very same thing at my hospital. Yes, the ratios are smaller and like somebody mentioned, we have more detailed work. At my hospital, we have to do assessments and vitals every 4 hours. That's more than all ...

I work on a general Peds nurse and do not receive specialty pay. But wouldn't that be nice :) We used to accept float help from other floors until we went to a closed unit. We also ran into nurses and CNA's who refused to take care of pedi patients....

I LOVED being a tech in Peds!! Our department also includes L&D and NICU so I got to work as a tech in all 3 areas!!! My first love was L&D but they don't hire new grads anymore so I have to wait my turn to get crosstrained. I love Peds to...

Our techs on the Peds floor do what you mentioned..baths, vitals, ambulating patients, weighing babies, etc. That is pretty much the same across the board. I would highly recommend getting a tech job there ASAP so that when graduation does come aro...
Just curious if anyone has taken this. As a Peds nurse we were required to take PALS and NRP. But now we are going to take ENPC instead of NRP. Has anyone taken this and do you have any advice? I've heard it's really hard and makes PALS look like...

Sounds like my advice is similar to the others. I have a daughter now who is going to college in a year and a half and wants to be a NICU nurse. Here is my advice to her because it DID help me. Get your CNA (some schools require it anyway). Get a...

As a Peds nurse, I can give you some insight. Things that are important in Pediatric nursing - calculating medication doses. It is VERY vital that you give your patient the correct dosage. You need to know safe doses for all meds. It is important...

I also work on a Pediatrics floor. We have double checks on ALL meds on all patients under 14. It cuts down on med errors greatly. I'm surprised you guys don't do this, I thought it was a standard. Second of all, Peds is a VERY hard area to lear...
