  1. 2nd shift CNAs (3-11), what are your routines?

I'm a brand spanking new CNA at a rehab/LTC facility. I'm working the 3-11 shift. Can any of you please share what your routines or schedules are for this shift? I'm just trying to get an idea of what others do, hoping that maybe I can glean ideas...
  2. How come my name doesn't appeared on the CNA Registry anymore?

Sending it in 3 days before the expiration may not have been early enough. I'm sorry.
  3. CNA's, Favorite department to work in?

I've worked in rehab and in LTC, and LTC is far and away my favorite. I love knowing the residents, knowing their favorite foods or music, or when it's their birthday.
  4. LTC CNA vs hospital CNA

I work at a hospital in a building that is half rehab and half LTC. There is definitely a difference in attitude and morale in rehab vs. in LTC. The people in rehab are busy, but helpful and for the most part cheery. They really work well as a tea...

  6. 2nd shift CNAs (3-11), what are your routines?

Thanks, this was the exact type of info I was looking for. Very helpful!
  7. Waiting for phone call after second CNA interview at hospital

I applied for a position at a hospital on 10/4 and was not hired until 11/8. I was warned after my interview that the HR dept. for this particular hospital was very slow and that I may not hear anything for a couple weeks. Most hospitals now have an...
  8. For those CNAs who got hired straight into hospitals...

The only job search I used was Indeed. I checked it at least twice a day, sometimes more. It included jobs that had been posted from all 3 of my local hospitals. Go to your local hospital's website and create a profile. It most likely will requir...
  9. Is going for a NAII worth it?

Right now I'm a CNA (NAI) in the state of NC. I'm not in a position right now to commit to a nursing school schedule, so that's going to have to wait for a bit, but I've been entertaining the thought of possibly doing an NAII program. I did my NAI ...
  10. CNA hours during Nursing Pre-reqs

Hi! I'm not in that situation, but a hospital I recently interviewed with said that they had a few CNA openings because some of their current CNA's had moved to part-time to go to school. My CNA class instructor has worked at another local hospital...
  11. WakeMed/Rex Differentials

    That. Is. Awesome.
  12. Pearson VUE Candidate Handbook

I'm in NC, and EVERYTHING was based on that little blue handbook. We had to memorize all the skills and all the steps of the skills exactly as they are in that book. Your state may be different, so I'd definitely contact someone and ask.
  13. Practical Hairstyle?

When I was in clinicals for my CNA program, I kept my hair up in a bun that I made with a ponytail holder. There's also a product I love called a "Spin Pin." It's made by Goody, and it's two corkscrew looking bobby pins. You twist your hair up int...
  14. An odd staff member

Sounds like he's just looking for somebody, ANYBODY, to listen. Maybe he doesn't have any friends and he's just kept all of this stuff bottled up inside because he had nobody to talk about it with. Honestly, I think he should get some counseling or ...
  15. New CNA II in NC, new job! Need advice...

I had heard great things about those too, then I heard lots of stories about people developing knee problems from them. I guess the only way to know is to try them out!
  16. New CNA II in NC, new job! Need advice...

Hey there, I'm a new CNA I and I just had my clinicals in Raleigh, NC last month. I had bought a pair of New Balance white shoes from Kohl's and at the end of the first day I was the only one whose feet didn't hurt! It definitely pays to get good s...
  17. cna to ma

It depends on the school, some require prereqs and some don't. Your experience as a CNA will definitely work in your favor. Keep in mind that if you do an LPN program for one year, you would one need to go back to school for one more year after that...
  18. cna to ma

In my city in NC, an LPN program is only one year and a Medical Assistant program is 2 years. With a Medical Assistant program you'll have a degree...but you'll also make less than an LPN, in my area at least. Here Medical Assistants are lucky if t...
  19. CNA v. Nurse Tech

Tomato, tomato :) At the hospital I had my clinicals at, on paper and verbally the CNAs were referred to as Nurse Techs, but their name badges said Nurse Aide.
  20. rehab nursing assistant

I guess California must do things differently. I'm in NC and just had my clinicals at the Rehab unit at our local hospital. The nursing assistants there did not have any special rehab certifications, they were just regular CNAs. (Not to say they we...
  21. Announce that you passed your CNA exam here!

Just passed my NC CNA exam this afternoon! My skills were: 1. Hand washing 2. Mouth Care 3. Position on side 4. Assist to ambulate with belt 5. Measuring urinary output I'm so relieved that it's done! Next step, CNA job!
  22. Thanks so much for posting this thread! I'm 30 and divorced, never been to college, and I graduated high school back in 1999. I just finished my CNA program, it was fast-track, basically a 4-month program condensed into one month. I was in class 8...
  23. I take my state boards friday any advice

So, you mean you only had 3 skills? Man...in NC the state exam is 5 skills!
  24. Problem with taking Blood pressure. grr.

I can tell you what helped me in class. Have the patient/guinea pig stick their arm out palm up and completely straighten it so that their elbow locks. Then, using a finger or just your eyes, trace a straight line from their pinkie finger to the in...
  25. State Exam tomorrow 8/2 a few more questions. Sorry.

    1. I find it easier to watch the stomach to count respirations. 2. I understand this issue as it was very common in my class. What I like to do is not stare at the clock, but just give it a quick glance every few seconds until it gets close to the e...
