I'm a brand spanking new CNA at a rehab/LTC facility. I'm working the 3-11 shift. Can any of you please share what your routines or schedules are for this shift? I'm just trying to get an idea of what others do, hoping that maybe I can glean ideas here and there.
Thanks a bunch!

There are several threads about this topic already. If you search for them you'll find a lot of info.
At my facility first shift lays a lot of people down after lunch, so we have to get them back up for supper. Everyone gets toileted and/or changed. You walk anyone that's ambulatory. Where I work most people eat supper in their rooms but a few of them go to the dining room.
After supper has been fed and put away is when the fit hits the shan. For some reason, the second that last bite of food is swallowed most of the residents can't wait to go to bed, or at least go to the bathroom, and they ring the call lights nonstop (or try to climb into bed by themselves). You have to fly around getting everyone ready for bed. Once everyone is in, things quiet down significantly... all you do for the next couple hours is change and reposition them a couple more times.
Try to get your vitals done BEFORE supper, or you'll end up having to wake people up to do them at the end of the night. And as you do your first rounds, get all your beds ready and put all your gowns and supplies out so you don't have to fish for them during crunch time. Basically anything that you can possibly get out of the way early- do it. The longer you work there, the more timesavers you'll come up with.
Thanks, this was the exact type of info I was looking for. Very helpful!

5 pm - Feed dinner.
6:30 pm - Take my lunch break.
7 pm - 9 pm -Finish showers, bed baths, get residents to bed.
9 pm - 10 pm -Do a bedcheck and make sure all rooms are clean.

I have been a c.n.a. for a little over a year now. I started on 3rd shift and where I work had one day of training was told I would have 3 days. I switched to 2nd shift last January when my pregnancy was making me exhausted. I had no training on 2nd, but it's a good thing I paid attention in c.n.a. school bc i took the night class. I now work full time 2nd shift 3-11:30. I work alone I have heavy residents mixed with a couple alert residents that need a little help, these are the ones always on call lights. My hall used to be easy, not Any more, hoping I get some help soon. I hit the floor when report is over. I have to get up 5 heavy ppl and toilet them by myself. And some where in there I have the 2 on the call light needing toileted and they get upset when they have to wait. I have 2 others that should be using their call light but don't, so if the nurse is busy I'm running all over. And I have one that is always trying to leave or in and out of other residents room looking for me or the nurse. When I'm charting this resident is always in my face trying to get my attention. I'll try to get a shower done before supper if the resident agrees. I'm getting room tray orders, I'm rushing to get the people that need fed down to the dining room at 4:30pm. I sometimes am feeding 4 people by myself. I then start getting those people back to the floor and lay them down, change them, brush their teeth and wipe faces. I may have to do a shower or 2 at this time too. I take my break at 8 or 8:30 most nights. And my 2 residents that are always on call lights get mad bc that's the time the one wants on toilet and sits on it for 30 min. The other one wants pajamas on and then sits in wheel chair until 10pm then wants toileted again then to bed. Some where in there i try to pass snacks. I finally emailed management to try to get me an aid bc I'm getting burned out fast. If they don't I'm looking for a different job. But is it like this at every facility?
