  1. So I am a new grad with no nursing experience. I have been looking for a job for 4 months now and still no job. I have to keep a roof over me and my daughters head so I have to take the job for right now. So I am now going through a temp to try and get experience. I do not get any orientation, so I was hoping if someone could tell me as exactly what is expected and what do you do as a lpn when you 1st walk in the door until you leave. I will be doing long term care by the way. Any help????

    ADHD nurse and Adderall

So I just started a 1st shift PT job in LTC. I am still under training and find it very hard to concentrate. I have been off and one Adderall and Ritalin since I was 4 years old. After I was done with clinicals, I thought I could function without the meds. After being coached yesterday by the supervisor( It took me 4-5 hours to pass am meds) I am thinking about going on Adderall again to save my job and be the great nurse I know I can be. If I do this do i have to let my job know. If Im ADHD is this drug considered to impair judgement or is me being med free considered impaired judgement. I also do not want to be judged by my job.... Any help is very appreciated, and nurses who have this and can do it without the meds, god bless you :):):).

    ADHD nurse and Adderall

Thank you very much, It's crazy how reality just smacks you in the face in "the real worl of nursing" vs passing meds to a few patients in school. It is very reassuring knowing people have been there and people like you who give me just a little more strength. I would like to be as fast as some of the other nurses but I am not willing to cut corners. I want to be the best nurse I can be:lol2:

    ADHD nurse and Adderall

Oh I did tell my school because it came up on a drug screen. The place were I took the drug test called and asked about my precribtion number etc.. to verify that I had a precribtion. Schools are less judgemental than a employer is.. Good luck!!

    ADHD nurse and Adderall

Well my first clinical rotation I failed and was not on my ADD meds. I had to wait a whole year to start clinicals. When I did I started back on Adderall and I got good grades and didn't feel "dumb" anymore. I tried working med free and during my traing and I could not keep up. So now that I am on my meds again, everything just makes sense. Thanks for the advice:yeah:
  7. So I got my 1st job offer as a LPN in a long term care facilty and I start orientation soon(very excited, it took me 5 months to find a job). I have anxiety and have been taking xanax in the evening before bed for years. I am unsure if I have to reveal this to HR because I will be working 1st shift. I do not mind being honest but I also do not want to give info that I dont have to. Any input is appreciated, thanks.
  8. Yes I do have a prescribtion for my medicine, and I was honest when I filled out the health form when I got my drug screen and physical. Yesterday I did call HR and asked if I have to inquire them about my meds and she said no and was very nice about it. So i feel much better now. Just so nervous that I will lose my dream job over something stupid. Thanks everyone:)

Please help!! Starting 1st lpn job as a temp and very nervous

Thanks everyone for your input. I DID NOT take the position and I eventually did find the perfect LTC job with 11 days of orientation. I am so excited, and also happy that I followed my instinct and everyones advice. :)
  10. :eek:So I am a new grad with no nursing experience. I have been looking for a job for 4 months now and still no job. 11. I would ask for more orientation. I am starting a job in long term care as a new grad and I am getting 11 day orientation. It is better to ask for more time then to be unsure of things and make a error. 3 days is not a long time to get to know a facility. Well good luck with eveything, hope it all works out.
  12. Yes I listed the meds and took the drug screen. I just do not want to do anything to ruin this job. Thanks :)

Please help!! Starting 1st lpn job as a temp and very nervous

Yes most of my clinical experience was LTC, I guess I am really nervous for my 1st job and all. You are right though about everything. It's very complicated, I did talk to the temp place and they are going to schedule a 8 hour orientation for me. Thank you for the support.
