Please help!! Starting 1st lpn job as a temp and very nervous

Published

So I am a new grad with no nursing experience. I have been looking for a job for 4 months now and still no job. I have to keep a roof over me and my daughters head so I have to take the job for right now. So I am now going through a temp to try and get experience. I do not get any orientation, so I was hoping if someone could tell me as exactly what is expected and what do you do as a lpn when you 1st walk in the door until you leave. I will be doing long term care by the way. Any help????

Well first of all you need to ask yourself if you are comfortable with throwing yourself out there without LTC experience, not even a month in a nursing home. Secondly, where has been the most bulk of your clinical rotations in the LPN program, if it's been in LTC, then you are pretty familiar with the setting and the role of an LPN in there. I totally understand your need to get a job ASAP, but I think you are taking a risk with our license that you have worked so hard for. Going in a facility as an agency nurse, you are expected to know oeverything and just pick up from where it's been left off. You'll be lucky to even have a fellow nurse show you where to find things. Remember if a serious error occurs, it's not the agency that gets in trouble, you do. Just think about that. But I wish u the best of luck, wish u'd wait a minute longer for that 1st job offer to come your way so you can have proper orientation. Just my 2cent piece in this.....GDLK!:):):):)

Yes most of my clinical experience was LTC, I guess I am really nervous for my 1st job and all. You are right though about everything. It's very complicated, I did talk to the temp place and they are going to schedule a 8 hour orientation for me. Thank you for the support.

Hello, I'm now in the same position as you were, couple months ago..... do you mine telling me the name of the agency? I understand it's like your stuck between a hard place and a rock ......well I wish you the best of luck what ever your decision is....hopefully if you get the time to read this, every worked out for you .

hello angeleys 123 I was wondering how you made out with your new expierence as LPN with LTC working through agency. Hope everything is going well for you.
