    Preparation for my first job

Thanks for the tip, I will do that. My education was quite different, but I think I will figure that out hopefully. Didn't know each state documentation laws are different. Where can I look that up online, Board of Nursing?

    Preparation for my first job

I will start to work in a couple of weeks. It is my first job in USA. What books would you recommend to read or study to make my start easier? I mean with documentation, assessment, laws what ever.... I am very nervous and really want to use the weeks until the real life starts.

German nurse wanna work in the US

I forgot, Kaplan is a test preparation school. It helped me to pass the NCLEX. You could study with the program online from Germany and do the test in England. There is no test center in Germany.

German nurse wanna work in the US

I remember I did the same thing and translated all of my transcripts, after I sent it to CGFNS per express I found out there are not interested in the grads at all. They only want to know your credits. Since we don't have credits, I sent my hours. Your school should be able to find out how many hours you did in the areas they want to know. The form is online on their Website. Some classes or practical hours have to be added up. Hope that helped you a little.

German nurse wanna work in the US

I now exactly were you are right now. It took me almost a year to get my CGFNS report and the ATT. Since we have a complete different school system it is not that easy to fill out the applications. Don't go with LPN, do your NCLEX and get your RN degree. It will be 'easier' to find a job as a RN. You don't need a school to get your degree, just do the test. Kaplan helped me with that. Good luck!

Scared to work as a RN

Thanks for the answers. I am already in the USA with the J2 visa and will get my working permit hopefully soon. Already waiting 9 weeks for it, so should arrive in about 3 weeks. A refresher course sounds great. Hope I can find one.

Scared to work as a RN

I am a German nurse and passed the NCLEX-RN this year. I studied a lot to pass this crazy test, but everything theoretic. Anyway, I heard that to work as a nurse in the USA is completely different compared to Germany. I am really scared to work in here. All this responsibility... I have 4 year working experience in my home country but there are some things I never learned, like a full body assessment or drawing blood.. feel so stupid. Does anybody has a advise for me what to do? Or somebody has the same feelings?

    LTC, please help

Thanks for your answer. I worked 4.5 years as a nurse in a home care setting and 5 months in a hospital. But this experience was in my home country - just hope it counts. In Hawaii I did the NCLEX-RN. Now I am waiting for my working permit, then for my SSN and then I will get my license. Think you are right thekid and I should wait to send my applications until I have my real license. I only have something like a temporary license. I cannot wait to send out my applications. Hope it takes not a year :-0. Don't care where I start to work LTC, Clinics, Hospitals ... just a RN job and not something completely different.

    LTC, please help

I think I am in the same situation like a lot of nurses in Hawaii. I am scared not to find a job after I got my license. I am thinking it could be easier to find a job in a Long term care or Home Care facility on Oahu. Does anybody has experience with nursing homes in here? Which one is good and which one not? How would you apply if they don't have a web site, would you go there personally? Would you already apply for jobs, even if you would get your license in 2 month? Hope somebody can answer my questions. I am getting more and more nervous. I will have to stay in Hawaii for at least another 2 years until I can move to the mainland or elsewhere. So I really have to find a job.

    Nurse experience

Thanks for your answer. I have a J2 visa and I am waiting for my working permit. I am pretty sure I will get it soon and then I will get my real license. I already got a kind of temporary license, which me does not allow to work. Was just not sure if I have to apply to a new grad position or if I can also apply for 1-2 year experienced nurse position too.

    Nurse experience

Hope somebody can help me, I am a international nurse and passed my NCLEX this year. Now I am looking for jobs. I am wondering if my 4.5 year working experience in a home care setting as a nurse in my home country count in the USA or if I am considerd as a new grad nurse because I did not work as a RN in the USA? (uff long sentence) New grads are having such a hard time to find a job. Thanks so much for answering

hello... regarding CGFNS for foreign students

I did my NCLEX this year without the CGFNS test in Hawaii and I am a foreign nurse but you will need the CES from them.
