How long does it usually take you to do one routine medicare visit? I usually spent 1 hour with the patient and 45 minutes to do documentation if there is nothing special.

I have a patient who was supposed to pick up her medication at the pharmacy one week ago after I ordered it by the MD. Today at my visit she still didn't pick it up. She already run out of his Bp meds. She is a medicare patient. Am I suppose to discharge her because of non compliant?

Crackers help me a lot. Since mid-last week I feel a little better. Still nauseated and always hungry but ok. I am also very tired, never have been that tired in my life, and I started to get very emotional with everything also with work issues. Wish I could afford to cut down on my hours

Thanks for the tip Kyasi. I found out the hard way not to take the vitamin on a empty stomach. Now I take it after work :). I still didn't tell my boss and try not to until I get my first picture and a heart beat. Shondacat517, sometimes Ginger ale works for me or to eat some crackers or other dry bread, but like I said only sometimes. Since about a week some smells gross me out. How are you doing? Did you tell your boss yet?

A week ago I found out I am 6 weeks pregnant. I am very exited and happy but I am soo nauseated. I don't know how to survive my working day's. Every time a go in a home to do a visit, I pray that I will not vomit. Scarred to take a shift work longer than 2 hrs. Do you have any tips or do you have/had the same experience? And when should I tell my boss? Think it would be better if he knows why I refuse clients. What do you think?

That was really interesting to hear how other home health nurses organize themselves. My agency does not allow me to take patient's information out of the office because of Hippa. So what I do is I initial the pt name on a handwritten paper and write the most importatant information on it, like dx, medication, code status... but no complete name, phone number, adress or sozial.number and keep it in a folder. On the end of day I go to the office and look up the files of my next day clients and check if there is something new.

I am totally scared to give out medication. I don't want to give out something which I don't know exactly, but how can I ever remember all the side effects, interactions and dosages. Just hope that it will get better after a while and my future boss will be patient.

As a new RN, do you look up every medication for their side effect, interaction and dosage size...before giving it? I am just wondering how other nurses handle the situation of having no time but still want to work save. I am a international nurse who got the RN license a while ago and I am really unsure with medication in here. I bought Davis Drug Guide for my phone and plan to look up every and each medication before I will give it out, but I am not sure if that is manageable.

Thanks so much for the answers. I think what I will do now is, I will go to the hospital tomorrow to get the teaching and to give support to my friend. I will let him know that I will not administer the medication and that he will have to do it by himself, but if he does not remember how to do it, I will help him remember. I think this the best way to help my friend and to not risk my any legal consequences. Do you agree with me?

They are teaching him at the hospital tomorrow how to administer the antibiotics by himself at home. The dressing change will be done in the hospital. So there will be no visit from a home care nurse at all. He also told me that he signed a form that the hospital will be not in charge if something goes wrong. He wants me to go with him to the hospital tomorrow to get the teaching and help him the first couple of days. I am not sure if I should do it or not.

What happened is, a friend needs antibiotics though a picc line. Since he does not has a insurance, he asked me if I could do this to save him money. I am a new grad RN and really unsure if I am allowed to do this. Would you do this or better not?

What a pain...

I will start to work in a couple of weeks. It is my first job in USA. What books would you recommend to read or study to make my start easier? I mean with documentation, assessment, laws what ever.... I am very nervous and really want to use the weeks until the real life starts.

I forgot, Kaplan is a test preparation school. It helped me to pass the NCLEX. You could study with the program online from Germany and do the test in England. There is no test center in Germany.

I remember I did the same thing and translated all of my transcripts, after I sent it to CGFNS per express I found out there are not interested in the grads at all. They only want to know your credits. Since we don't have credits, I sent my hours. Your school should be able to find out how many hours you did in the areas they want to know. The form is online on their Website. Some classes or practical hours have to be added up. Hope that helped you a little.

I now exactly were you are right now. It took me almost a year to get my CGFNS report and the ATT. Since we have a complete different school system it is not that easy to fill out the applications. Don't go with LPN, do your NCLEX and get your RN degree. It will be 'easier' to find a job as a RN. You don't need a school to get your degree, just do the test. Kaplan helped me with that. When I fill out the application forms, there is always the question about how much salary I would like to have. They also asked me the question on the interview. I am not sure what to say, do you think $30/hr is ok to say, or is the average salary in here at the moment lower in a not hospital environment?

I don't no what to do to find a job on the island. I already applied for a medical assistant position, but they told me I am overqualified for this position. I know that, but I need something to do, and I need at least a little bit money. Does anybody know if hospitals, nursing homes or somebody else hire rn's for a lpn job? Or does this has some legal problems.

Thanks everybody for the motivating answers. My working permit just arrived and I will start applying soon. My plan now is to be honest on the interview and try to get a extensive and long orientation. Just hope that they give me a chance even if I will need a lot of support. Just curious, how are other international nurses handle this difficulties? I am sure I can learn how to do assess heart, lung, bowel sounds. It's just I need some time and I am scared that I could make a failure assessment or any other mistake or I need to much time to learn all this...

Thanks for the answers. I am already in the USA with the J2 visa and will get my working permit hopefully soon. Already waiting 9 weeks for it, so should arrive in about 3 weeks. A refresher course sounds great. Hope I can find one.
