Thank you everyone for your encouragement, words of wisdom/positive criticisms. I really appreciate it. I am just scared as to what kind of nurse I will become if I keep making mistakes. I always tell myself to relax and not get caught up with the anxiety/stress especially while in the middle of med pass (have 8-9 patients in a medsurg floor), but sometimes I just cant help it. When I'm stressed, thats when I tend to make mistakes. (gave med to the wrong patient).My mistake was I did not look at the armband but then again most of our patients have been in the facility for weeks so I thought I was "safe" and that I knew my patients well already. Again, thank you and I'll definitely do a root cause analysis to figure out what I'm doing wrong. My med errors have not resulted in harm to any of my patients but i'm still very concerned as you never know what kind of error might happen next.

Will you quit nursing after making 5 med errors in the first 7 months of being an RN?

Anyone??? I'm an RN with about 6 months of experience and wanting to go back to school to study computer science. The stress is sucking the life out of me and I feel like I've become an emotional wreck. I do not want to have to deal with these emotions for the rest of my career. Anyone else considered/considering the same route? Any thoughts will be much appreciated, thanks! Only constructive opinions please.

Hi everyone! I need your inputs/opinions. I just visited my physician earlier today and told her I get very bad anxiety/depression before I go to work. She prescribed Paxil for me to take daily. My question is, do I really need to take Paxil everyday or can I just take it as needed? I'm afraid that I may become dependent to it if I take it daily and would really like to take it only when I need it. Any inputs?? What anxiolytic is best for PRN use?? Thanks!!

Indy you're an awesome preceptor! can you please be my preceptor?hehe.. I will be starting in a LTAC facility this month as a new grad, orientation is 6 weeks with 1:8 ratio. Any tips?? My greatest weakness is I lack assertiveness. =/ What can I do to make the most out of my orientation? What are some of the good characteristics that new grad nurses should have while on orientation aside from a willingness to learn?

Can anyone give me tips on how a new grad like me can survive in LTAC? I already resigned from my job in the hospital (medsurg post-op unit) and want to give LTAC a try. Nurse to patient ratio in LTAC is 1:8 night shift. Hi I have a question. What if you check your pt's blood sugar and it's too high for the glucometer to register, (limit of glucometer is lower than 450) and this pt is on a regular insulin sliding scale. Aside from calling the MD, would you give the highest dose of regular insulin on the sliding scale as well? What else would you have to do?? I'd like some guidance on this! thanks!

Thank you everyone. I pushed through with the resignation and agreed to pay the amount for breaking the two year contract. Working there caused me a great amount of stress and anxiety to the point that I could no longer enjoy my life outside of work. I cant sleep, I get anxiety attacks during my work days and when I'm off, I can hardly enjoy my meals, most of the time I just want to lie down and bury myself in bed. I am bummed about paying but I feel relieved as well. Now I have to decide whether or not I should give up nursing altogether and start a new career or should I give nursing another try? I have another job opportunity at a LTAC, right now I don't have any other jobs that are non-nursing related. I am considering this option just so I can have a job but I am still so scared and anxious about working as a nurse, I am worried that I might not be able to handle it and quit again. A friend of mine works in the same facility and she warned me that the grass is not greener on the other side, but I like the fact that they dont get admits/discharge every shift -- this is part of the reason why I could not handle medsurg because it was too fast-paced for me. I dont know if this "fear" is just all in my head or am I really not cut out for nursing? Please help! Should I try working in LTAC?

I only remember signing for the sign-on bonus which I have not received yet since they start giving the sign on bonus after the 90 day orientation period.

Hi I'm a new grad and I've recently resigned from my RN position at a valley health system hospital before the end of 12 weeks of orientation (2 weeks left). I've spoken with a recruiter from HR and she mentioned that I would have to pay a fee for breaking the two year agreement which would amount to almost 2500USD, she explained that this is because the hospital has already invested a lot in me and so I would have to pay 100 a month for every month that I was not working in the hospital within the two year period in the contract. Has anyone who quit the new grad program before the end of orientation (90 day introductory period) experienced the same thing? Did you have to pay as well?

thank you! You should call the nurse recruiter at Spring Valley today since I declined the offer yesterday. I'm having a bit of a dilemma about that actually. Its been really bothering me. I hope you can give me some insight. I was interviewed at Spring Valley Hospital two days ago as well, it was on Tuesday, the same day I signed the contract at Summerlin. I did not cancel my interview at Spring Valley when I accepted the job offer at Summerlin a day before my interview with Spring Valley because I thought it was too late for me to cancel, and because I wanted to have more options in case the offer at Summerlin does not push through. You see, I was promised a job at Summerlin since July and it has been delayed for a long time so I was having doubts about the offer, so I wanted to have more options. But then this created a problem when I was offered the position at Spring Valley the day after I was interviewed by them. The nurse recruiter told me that she was about to extend the offer to me, but then she saw in their system that I already accepted a job offer at Summerlin Hospital last Monday, the day before my interview with Spring Valley. She was disappointed because she said they could have selected another candidate for the interview if they knew that I already had a job offer. I did apologize though and I explained to her why I opted to attend the interview anyway. Will this affect my job hunting in the future? Will I have a bad record in their facility now? I'm a bit worried because I really liked the managers at Spring Valley. If they offered me the job sooner I would've taken it. I would really appreciate your insight on this.

Hi! just an update..my interview with Spring Valley went very well! I got the job offer the next day but I turned it down because I already accepted a job offer elsewhere.. the managers at spring valley were awesome! They were all very fun and I did not feel nervous at all because they had their way of guiding you through the interview that made you feel relaxed and comfortable. If would've really wanted to work there If I was offered the job sooner than the other hospital that I applied for. They did not ask me a lot of questions..just the basic tell me about yourself, they also asked me to explain the nursing process, what motivates me, why I applied at Spring Valley, and I also made sure to ask them questions.

i believe some have jobs already.. some relocated to another state.. im nto considering relocation yet.=c Me too I was so surprised I got a call for an interview at Spring Valley, I wasnt expecting any response anymore from them but I'm just glad for the opportunities.

I graduated May of this year and have been looking for a job since july. No this isn't my first interview. The other interviews I had, I was promised the job but I have to wait since there were no new grad positions at that time! So I've been applying to other facilities while waiting. Have you applied to Kindred hospitals? Yes I did call the nurse recruiter every week and left messages in her voicemail since I never had the chance to speak with her. Thanks for the advice! Hi mnnurse. I applied in Spring Valley last week of Aug and the status of my application immediately changed to forwarded to HM. Then I got a call for a panel interview this week, so I waited about 2-3 weeks? Ill let u know how my interview goes! Anyone else had an itnerview in spring valley? any tips?
