  1. Crowd funding: Yay or Nay?

I really this is a zombie thread but I wanted to chime in. I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with mets to liver, lungs and lymph nodes. A dear friend started a go fund me page on my behalf. It was a shock but very appreciated. I ha...
  2. WDYT? Sticking up for myself or...

I am a CNA with over five years of hospital experience as a float. I have been on all floors except OB/PEDS. I currently work in an OR but am looking to change my hours and get back into a more clinical setting. I applied for a position on OB (same f...
  3. WDYT? Sticking up for myself or...

Now wait a minute..I was happy to shadow and was very motivated to be in OB that day. Again, I was completely new to OB. I was not miffed at all that they asked me to help move the bed. In fact, I was a bit surprised as I had been asked to stand quie...
  4. WDYT? Sticking up for myself or...

Ok...but consider this scenario. I was present during a csection during my last shadow. Great, get to learn something new. After the patient was on the table, I was asked to help push the bed out of the room. My preceptor knew I was a CNA and nodd...
  5. Nurses forced to work as aides

Sigh. First of all, it is RNs, not "RN's". Leave it to the uneducated aide to correct the college grad on her grammar. That said, when this happens, you get to to more hands on patient care aka the dirty work..it's not glamorous but someone has ...
  6. Call Lights

How can people let these go? Really? I have noticed certain staff members (not going to specify aide or nurse as I do not want to start that fight)who will sit and gab and not answer a incessantly ringing light? Why??
  7. Bullying at work, far commute... what to do??

I only read the OP quickly but as someone who has btdt, lose the boyfriend. "Supportive" does not equal you as a breadwinner:/
  8. Switching career path..advice appreciated

I am a PCA and have been employed by the same hospital for nearly three years. Started on the cardiac floor and have been in the float pool for nearly two years now(psych,ED,med/surg, ICU, cardiac). I go everywhere but peds/obgyn as PCAs are not need...
  9. Lawrence Memorial Hospital/Regis College FALL 2012

Congrats..how difficult was it to get into the program?
  10. WWYD?

Let's say you went to CNA school and while you were there you met a student. This student is middleaged and lives with family. He admits (without any source of remorse) that he shoved his preteen niece hard against a wall when she talked back to him...
  11. I'd like some advice. I'm 42yrs old and i've been an LPN 7yrs.

You could get the best of both worlds by choosing a post close to a large city...like Fort Lewis or Fort Hood..
  12. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

Male aides are gold because they can lift
  13. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

Talk to me about the other aides
  14. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

You have to document your VS asap. Unless they are documented they never happenedAgain take your breaks. Since you have done without them you might never get them back. Are you at least getting paid for them? Are you the only aide working?
  15. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

Can you walk through a typical shift?
  16. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

So they are trying to scare you. Dont let them. 4-Only you can answer this one...when you are at work are you there as an aide or as a future nurse. If it's the former, good. Latter, step back and remember why you are there
  17. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

Ok a few things. I am going to assume you are a sole aide on busy postop ortho floor. 1-Vitals are key and should be your main focus. Get in there, get em and get out. Docs hound nurses for these. Chart them right away lights be damned. I guarantee.....
  18. New PCNA, need a nurses input/advice

I am a PCA. Are these RNs answering lights when you are doing vitals?
  19. why not go for RN?

Hmm....well..let's see...there are not all that many open RN programs around here..BSN or ADN..in my area. I personally know of people who have an awesome GPA, references, work experience, etc. and even they cannot get into these programs. It is not ...
  20. Please help me figure out next steps...

I mentioned earlier that I was considering a for profit LPN school. I am in my late thirties and want very much to ultimately be an RN. Here is what I have figured out: LPN program pros: will be an lpn by 4/14 for sure unless *I* screw up price($1...
  21. What advice would you give me?

I am a 38 year old CNA. I became one in 2009 and got a hospital job right away. I like my work and have done well here. I want to take the next step. There is a for profit school called Intercoast that offers a 15 month LPN program. I have a goal of ...
  22. What advice would you give me?

I could do gen eds for a year but, again, acceptance into a cheaper RN program is not guaranteed. What if I do gen eds and can't do anything with those?
  23. need advice from LD/OB nurses

CNAs are rarely if ever seen in OB. RNs run the show there. Perhaps becoming an OB tech might be of interest to you
  24. mandatory reporting

    What is the "neglect"?
  25. DOD Nursing?

I am interested in becoming an RN and then working for the DOD...not as a military RN with rank but for the DOD. Can anyone tell me about her experience with the DOD?
