I am a PCA and have been employed by the same hospital for nearly three years. Started on the cardiac floor and have been in the float pool for nearly two years now(psych,ED,med/surg, ICU, cardiac). I go everywhere but peds/obgyn as PCAs are not needed there.

I live near Boston and a trying to get in as an aide through Partners or Childrens. I would like to segue into postpartum/pediatrics. I apply for jobs online. Is there a little "something extra" I can do to get into one of the larger hospital as a PCA.?My ultimate goal is to be an RN.

You will probably need to talk to someone in HR, which means personal interview. I don't know if that is possible, as they try to keep everything online to avoid bias. Once you have enrolled in nursing school it might help. If HR finds out you have goals that makes you a better employee in the long run, as it is cheaper to "grow your own" rather than hire unknowns

What is your background? I am from Boston too and have worked at one of the hospitals you mentioned... to be perfectly honest, a large number of the open PCA positions at large Boston hospitals are reserved/preference is given to Northeastern Co-op students. The job market in Boston is very tight right now. Do you have any connections at any of these hospitals? That is your best in....
