  1. Houston job market for new grads

Hi everyone, I am a soon to be BSN grad in May 2009 and was wondering what the Houston job market is looking like for NG RN's. I am from Ohio/Michigan boarder area and it's a horrible time for any job here, even RNs are getting laid off! Also, a lot ...

  5. LPN- RN or straight to RN? (Cleveland market)

For the Cleveland markets, LPN's are pretty limited to nursing homes/LTC facilities, as a general rule of thumb. Getting into Cleveland Clinic (which owns half of hospitals in Cleveland) will be very rough. Getting into University Hosp (which owns th...
  6. Top of pay scale Cleveland Clinic

I am surprised that you started at 23...I externed (Nursing Associate program) there last summer and was quoted at $25.75/hr for new grad BSN.
  8. Also, as a side note, I find it offensive and ignorant when having the Magnet hospital debate, people on this board will say "they hire BSN's just to get their percentage up" for Magnet credentialing...I think the above reasons make it clear as to wh...
  9. I actually just had this conversation with my NM the other day (who p.s. started as an AD nurse). The way that she explained it to me is--- Baccaulaureate prepared nurses all around get the big picure of nursing. AD nurses get the skills (and yes, ma...

  15. Anyone in clinical can teach you how to pass out a pill, program an IV start pump, or clean a wound. Working as an aid in school will give you invaluable experience with nursing culture, prioritizing patient's needs, customer service, picking up on h...

All 50 states will require you to be licensed by their state Board of Nursing. This is to protect the public and to make sure that we are all competent nurses! Hope this helps--good luck on your search :)

definitely 11p-7a for me. there is no management to stress you out, a teamwork feel, and although the patients never sleep its a really great time have conversations with them and learn.
  21. You know you are a CNA when....

you start answering your own phone with "may i help you?" :)
