  1. Definition of Level II Nursery?

I am currenly a RN on a peds hem/onc floor and I need a change! After applying to L&D and having that fall through, I've found a position in a Level II Nursery at a nearby hospital. What are the different levels of NICU's and what do they mean? W...
  2. Dell Axim PDA's

I am seriously considering purchasing a PDA and since I already have an account with Dell, I have been looking at their line. Those of you who own this type, or if you know anything about them, please let me know. I've searched the PDA threads and re...
  3. This is somewhat of an issue for me. I just would like to know how close you guys get to your patients, especially if they're terminal? I've heard mixed feelings on the subject being that there are nurses who feel it's ok to let your heart become i...
  4. New travel nurse, traveling with pets

I leave in 2 weeks for my first assignment as a travel nurse (I'm so excited!) and I'm taking 2 cats and 1 puppy with me. My cats don't like traveling at all so I called my vets office today to ask what I could give my kitties before traveling so the...
  5. New travel nurse, traveling with pets

In the past, I've taken them home to visit my family until it got to be too much! Bella does pretty good, but Nate is a bear! I can't imagine having to ride 10 hours with them without them being sedated!
  6. Does your employer recognize "Nurse's Day"?

Hah! Here's what my employer gave us: a keychain a bumper sticker $4.00 worth of vouchers to fast food joint We all feel so appreciated here. Oh, and to top that off, the travel nurses here didn't even get that.
  7. Federalize Nursing Licenses! Who's with me?

I agree. As a future traveler, I don't look forward to paying all those licensure fees. Uggh!
  8. Nursing School And Outside Work?? Help!

I started nursing school straight out of high school at age 18 and didn't have to work because I still lived at home and didn't have any bills. I was in school for 2 years to get my ADN and only worked 16 hours that whole time. I decided after those ...
  9. my college is scaring me

I think some of the stuff I took in school was a joke, nursing theory for example. Why I need to know what nurses did in 1910 is beyond me. It hasn't helped my practice any. English on the other hand is good. You want to know how to write your nursin...
  10. Tell me about your journey...

I graduated 2 years ago with my ADN. I plan on going back, just not right now. I'd like to be a nurse midwife eventually. Started in peds hem/onc, still doing peds hem/onc although I need a change. I want to do travel nursing about the next year or s...
  11. sick nurses

I will not under any circumstance come to work sick. I think nurses who do are only stressing themselves out, and in the long run, they'll wish they had taken better care of themselves. My job is to take care of sick children, which I cannot do if I ...
  12. Migraines...what helps you?

I know in the medical community, there is a HUGE debate over whether chiropractors actually do any good. My advice however is to find a good one and have him or her treat your migraines. It's worked miracles for me.
  13. Dispute at work tonight

There's a dispute going on at work tonight, it's kinda silly, but I want to get everyone's thoughts and opinions on the subject. Is it JCAHO policy that nurses aren't allowed to have drinks at the desks or is it strictly hospital policy? What is your...
  14. I want to travel, but am scared, please help!

I am in serious need of a change. I've been working in peds hem/onc for a year and a half and am already burned out. I am heavily considering taking a travel assignment but don't know with my personality if I would be cut out for it. I'm more of a re...
  15. Dispute at work tonight

By the way, I'm fussing at JCAHO, not anyone posting here. Didn't mean for it to come sacross like that.
  16. Dispute at work tonight

But since when is the nurses station considered a "patient area"? It's JCAHO policy or so I've heard that the patients aren't supposed to be behind the nurses station where they have access to other patient's information due to privacy laws and all t...
  17. HELP!!! <LONG>

I've posted different topics in the travel nursing forum, and get little to no answers, so I thought I would put this here, hoping to get more traffic. I'm trying to decide if I want to take a travel assignment or not. I've been on a peds hem/onc fl...
  18. HELP!!! <LONG>

I will check out those forums for travelers you guys were talking about. I work with a lot of travelers so I've got many opinions on the subject first hand from them about companys and such. If anyone else has thoughts on this subject, please let m...
  19. Is it hard not to get attatched?

I get attached. Yeah, it hurts when a child passes that I'm attached to, but it's all part of the process for me. I'd rather have the child enrich my life while they're here, than to put a wall between me and them. I do sometimes contact them when th...
  20. Are you kidding, texas nurses?

I'm looking for a travel assignment. Where are the best places to work in Texas? Peds floors only. Amber
  21. I would NEVER work a 24 hour shift. Sometimes here there's a nurse or two who will volunteer for a 16 but not me.
  22. HELP!!! <LONG>

Thanks for the encouraging words so far... If anyone else would like to respond, please do... Even if what you want to say has already been said! I REALLY appreciate everyone's kind words. And by the way, I can't find any assignment shorter than 13 w...
  23. Is this common?????

I am trying to decide what company to travel with. Can I ask which company it was that you had such a problem with and what company you've found that you like? Thanks. Amber
  24. the term "animal nurse"

Thank you for defending those of us out there who JUST have their ADN! I was pretty insulted by that post as well. One thing I want to add, what is being a nurse about in the first place??? Knowing what administration does, or knowing how to take car...
  25. Clinic or office nursing?

I saw an ad in the paper this morning for an opening in an OB/GYN office, hours M-Th 8-4:30 and Fri 8-1:30. I've been working night shift for the past year and at 22 years old, would like to have more of a normal life. I feel like I don't get to do v...
