Clinic or office nursing?

Your salary will more than likely be much less than what you are getting in the hospital setting. As the nurse in an OB/GYN office you will be assisting with procedures and pelvic exams all day, unless you are the only licensed office staff that there is. In which case, you would have the responsibility of prescription renewal, etc. If you keep any scheduled meds in the offoce, they would fall under your responsibility for counts, etc...............

There will definitely be the good with the not so good..... :balloons:

You may be talking in the range of $15-16 per hour where you are for an office job. You want to consider looking at a clinc type set up, but based in a hospital.

I work in a clinic which is physically standalone but is part of a major HMO-we get paid the same as the hospital nurses. So it can be done. And it's MUCH better than working inpatient (IMHO). :)

I'm going through much the same thing. I've been working about a year in acute care in the hospital on night shift. I have been wanting to get into the OR but it's not happening and I'm exhausted!! I interviewed for a home health position which is basically Mon-Fri 8-4:30 with every third weekend on call and on call one night a week. If they offer it to me I'm sure I'll probably take it even though it's going to be a cut in pay. Anything to get away from the stress, fatigue, and chaos.

I actually just gave my two weeks notice yesterday. I am on a Medical Step-down unit where our patient's acuity is actually comprable to that of an ICU. I have been there almost a year but it is in my opinion unsafe on many levels. I am going to stay on as contingent because it is the best hospital in the area and I don't want to burn any bridges. I just accepted a position at a home health care agency. I did a ride along and I loved it. I am so excited to have a normal life. I was working days/midnight rotations flipping every two weeks, needless to say I have trouble sleeping now! I am really excited to get to give the kind of nursing care I want to give, not running around crazy barely seeing my patients. Good luck, I know what you are going through!

P.S. The RN at my OB/GYN office is always busy, she takes a million phone calls, sees patients with the docs, does prescription renewals and a million other responsibilities. You will probably be busier than you think.

That really depends on the area you live in because I used to worked for a multi-specialty clinic in an OB/GYN office and I only made around 10.50 an hour but the benefits were really good and so was the schedule. I am in florida by the way. So it really depends on if you can take the pay cut in lieu of great schedule and benefits. Hope this helps.

Kdiggity, I read your post and found it to be helpful to me. I'm going through that also. I really hope that I'll get this job if they offer it. I'm so tired of being tired and depressed!
