One word: RELAX. When I first started I had so much anxiety about doing well I was close to tears every day. It was a waste of energy that could have been put to better use. Now that I'm more relaxed, I'm making better grades and I'm actually having fun with school. You'll make it through. Yes, the first few tests will kick your booty but it will not be the end of the world. Study the tables and charts in your book, instructors love pulling questions from them. Things do get easier as you go along and get used to your instructor's testing style. It is a lot of work, but if you approach it as something that you want to do, instead of something you have to do, your life will be so much easier.

Because we need to know the information, not just how to read it.

That sounds like a good idea . By the way, if anyone wants to know, the point cut off was 180.

I was accepted to the Shelby Campus!!!!! I was thinking, for those of us that make it (to either campus), maybe we should meet up for coffee or something to get to know each other before orientation and the start of the semester? It's always nice to recognize some friendly faces. Even if we're not at the same campus, we could always study dosage calculations and medical terminology together before school starts!

I heard it from a friend. Of course, it's totally a rumor so I bet you're right about them going out next week! That would be great! I just hope they get here before next Saturday (the 21st). I'm going on a cruise over spring break and I'd hate to miss out on my letter while I'm gone. Thanks so much for the dosage calculation link, I'm excited to start learning those. I think those calculations are the scariest part of nursing school!

So... I just heard a rumor about someone hearing that the letters are coming out... The second week of April.

Hahaha bfeemster! The exact same thing happened to me just a few minutes ago. I agree, though, they should have assigned someone else to help. I'm so frustrated!

Ugh! I can't believe this is going on! When is orientation supposed to be? I read on the 2009 Spring thread that one semester they ended up having to call people because letters were so late? I'm really impatient - I can't wait until April!

As long as she has a decent GPA (2.5 for the past 24 hours of undergrad work... that's the minimum, though), I don't see why she won't make it! But with Jeff State, you really don't know until that letter is in your hands!

I just have to say.... I want my letter!!! I pray every day that they magically decided to send them out early, even though I know they would never do that (late is so much more Jeff State's style). magnolia, which campus did you end up applying to?

Last semester people began to get letters about a month after the due date. Hopefully we'll get them a little more quickly than that since the Summer term typically gets less applicants. I'm so nervous!

Write things down! Make flow charts. Draw silly pictures of how the blood flows through the heart and body. Make up rhymes and songs... When you're in lab think up dirty and stupid ways to remember where things are located. Really, the more immature it is, the easier you'll be able to remember it! Review the main points of your notes everyday. Try to think up fun ways to study and then reward yourself for doing well! Don't stress - you'll end up not remembering anything. Get to know your instructor. If you come across a problem, it's a lot easier to pull aside your professor and ask them to explain it again if you talk and get to know them often. It's always nice to have someone cheering you on, too. If you feel like you're in over your head and you have a bad professor (which happens A LOT) drop the class. I've made As in both classes, but I did fail A&P I my first try. I was lazy and had a terrible teacher. Anatomy and Physiology were really fun classes for me! Make sure you make friends that are responsible and you can enjoy studying with. I always found sitting next to someone that knew exactly what I was going through was really helpful. Good luck!

Hey guys! Since the spring applicants are recieving acceptance letters, I thought it would be about time to make a Summer '09 thread so we can all get to know each other and hopefully have some friends before school starts. Maybe we should tell a little about ourselves? Starting in the Summer scares me(it's so much work!), but it's really my only option. I'm very very dedicated and I will do everything I can to make sure I'm successful in my courses. I don't have a job or a family to take care of so hopefully I'll be able to studystudystudy! I won't be taking any classes in the Spring because I'll have all my points(200, if I can pass math with an A or a B) so I'm going to volunteer my time with TEARS... it's an animal rescue and rehabilitation nonprofit company. I am so excited to start nursing school!

So it's coming back for Fall '09 applicants (and beyond).. not those that are going to apply for Summer '09? I've worked so hard for my 200 points.. I don't want it to all come down to an entrance exam!

I wouldn't say A&P is easy... but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. I'm in A&PII right now and I've never had to study more than the night before a class (I'm a crammer, though, I retain info when I'm under pressure) to make an A or a very high B. I think A&PI was more difficult because of the labs, though. I hated muscles and bones! It really depends on what kind of subjects you enjoy. I love science so I'm sure my interest in it helps me out. Just make sure to NEVER fall behind and don't miss class! Missing class and lab is the one thing that will cause you to do poorly.

You could always politely ask your teacher if there is some sort of assignment that you could do instead or if you could just opt out of lab that day. At my school, we are not forced to dissect anything (we only dissect fetal pigs and only if we want to and feel comfortable doing so) and our instructors upload pictures online so we can study for lab exams. I wouldn't dissect a cat for purely moral reasons. They are bred for the purpose (most likely in sad conditions) and aren't able to chose their fate like human cadavers were able to. I have no problems with people who can dive right in, though! More power to them!

Hey guys! I'm planning on starting nursing school (ADN) in Summer 09. Since I'm finishing all my pre-reqs this semester, I have absolutely nothing to do in the spring. Our school offers a Human Pathophysiology class. It's not required for nursing school (it's pretty much for Biology majors), but I was wondering if I should take it anyway? Do ya'll think it would help me once I get in the program? Are there any other courses that may help me out? I'm trying to do everything I can to give me some sort of advantage when I get into school. Thank you so so much for your help! :redbeathe
