Hello, Quick question - Does anyone know about Broadview's night school RN program? I'm particularly interested in the schedule as I have a day job that I can't change. Secondly, their program is accredited by NNLAC but the school is accreditited by one of the bodies that many private, for-profit schools are. My ultimate goal is to be a FNP. Will I have any challenges with credits transferring even after I completed the program? Thanks in advance!

If one were to attend an ADN program at a 'trade school' as opposed to a CC or 4 year univsersity/college, are you shooting yourself in the foot when considering NP school? For example, there are several schools out there that are in the preliminary process of accreditation by on the national level (already have State approval) such as - http://www.ameritech.edu/ http://www.utahcollege.edu/ http://www.apollocollege.edu/ Some have said the credit is only good at University of Phoenix (or another arranged university) for your RN to BSN. So my question is, if you attended one of these schools and did your BSN at UOP, would you be shooting your hopes of NP school down the drain? Thank you.

Does anyone know of RN programs geared towards working folks? I've seen a few ADN programs that advertise they cater to working people with night classes, ect. FWIW, I live in Arizona and have not found anything in the state that allows such flexibility. Most programs are "full time" and during the day. Thanks for your responses.

Hypothetically, if someone wanted to be a FNP, would entering into a general/family private practice as a RN serve well? I would think that someone wanting to practice family health care would benefit enormously by actually working in family care as a RN prior to being a NP. I am not sure if the hospital route is the only feasible option for such a specialty. Your take?

FWIW, I spoke with a FNP student just finishing up at UOP who had great things to say about the program.

Does anyone know anything about University of Phoenix FNP program? I know that most UoP's programs are geared towards 'working adults'. I'd love to hear anyone's comments on the school and program.

I get the impression that a fairly common sentiment amongst NPs (on this site) is they're very uncertain about their skills or abilities. It's actually concerning to read. I understand a NP is not a MD however, a FNP should be able to treat 80% of all illnesses and do it with confidence. Studies have shown the ability of NP to provide comparable family care as FMD yet I read that some NP are unsure or feel unprepared on complex treatments and/or diagnosis that they will encounter as a FNP or other NP. Scary...

In my state, Arizona, NPs can practice independently of physicians. Not that any good healthcare provider doesn't consult with their colleagues, but the law as I understand it, allows NPs to be sole providers. What prevents NPs from opening up 'Arizona Family Medical Center' (theri own practice..)? Do insurance panels not cover them? I am trying to understand such dynamics. It's no secret that family physicians and GPs are on the decline in serious numbers which will/is introduce a serious deficiency in primary care. I believe NP (and PA) will ultimately become THE primary care providers and insurance panels and state/fed laws will be revised to allow people access to mid level practitioners as a whole.

Not so. DOs practice every medical specialty in numbers. The idea that most DOs go into primary care in antiquated. My father is a neurologist and a DO so I hear about this all the time.

I currently live in Arizona where NPs apparently don't require any collaboration with a physician and can practice solo. Would a FNP in private, family typically be able to admit a patient to a hospital if needed? Generally, in the US can FNPs admit?

Thanks for the insight. I hear FNPs have a difficult time getting into hospitals. What's the reason behind this? I know plenty of GPs that work in hospitals, admit patients, etc. In my state, there are only FNP, PNP, and NNP programs. What if someone were to do an ACNP program after they got their FNP? I would think that having your FNP would shave off a decent amount of time.

Could an ACPNP still work in a primary pediatric practice?

It seems like ACNPs can work in family practice as well as acute care settings (from some job postings I've seen) whereas a FNP is somewhat limited to a family practice setting (I understand there are some exceptions). So it would seem the ACNP would me a more marketable specialty than a FNP. Agree? Disagree? Why?

Anyone want to give me the skinny on what a ACNP does? ED? Urgent Care? Age range of pts.? Peds? Thanks!

Would a PNP be operating outside their scope if they called in a Rx for someone over 21? Either way, a PNP or FNP both have a DEA number so how would a pharmacy put the screws to a PNP Rx'ing for someone over 21? I guess it could be a quick way to lose their license..

Total hypothetical here - Often a physician will call in an antibiotic for a family member, sometimes across state lines. Would a NP in Arizona for instance, be able to call in a Rx for their brother in Utah (or any other combo of states)? Legal? Lets hear your thoughts.

What about a school that has the proper accreditation status as an actual school but only has state accreditation for nursing?

What about schools that are accredited by a stage BON rather than one of the national bodies?

Does anyone have any good online resources for practice tests with the HESI exam?

What kind of annual earnings 'could' a new RN expect? Would one department pay better than the other?

In the family setting, a NP sees a skin condition that will require a biopsy. Will they perform such a surgical procedure? In general, do NPs get training in suturing, biopsy, and other routine minor surgical procedures?

Which did you guys think was harder, your RN or your CRNA? As for CRNA school, how much chemistry was involved? Were you drowned with chemical equations and lengthy math problems?

Seems like the schools are split on counting ED experience as "critical care" for the 1-2 year requirement. What have you guys seen out there as far as schools accepting people with just ED experience?

Anyone have any suggestions on the most time efficient (ie fastest) RN to BSN program online? Thanks!
