  1. I'm in a BSN-RN program and one of our instructors mentioned how supposedly, there will be no more MSNs - everyone will be required to get doctorates, sort of like what happened to the physical therapy profession (they all have to get doctorates now)...
  2. HELP! Social question-over the line?

Wow, this is a tough one. I'm a student nurse and have seen a few issues like this come up already. They puzzle me since there are so many sides, plus there is no unanimous standard. They don't touch things like this in school. That said, I am als...
  3. Diff b/w PICC and Central Line

Interesting. I didn't have a central line until I woke up from my liver transplant - the line was just there. But they found that it was too far in after a CXR so they reinserted it and did another CXR. I think it was finally good that time. Anyways ...
  4. Websites...

Wow, this post is amazing! Anyone have a "master" list? That'd be amazing! Thanks to everyone who has contributed!
  5. Diff b/w PICC and Central Line

Bump. My question is, why would you choose a central line over a PICC line with all the risks? Plus, I had a transplant and had a central line myself and after seeing how invasive and annoying it was... I wonder, why didn't they just use a PICC? And ...
  6. Is anatomy one of the toughest courses for nursing?

Not at all! For me, nothing held a candle to physiological chemistry, and once in nursing school, general nursing of adults is a ton of info in a small m amount of time! I guess it all depends what school you go to...
  7. Do you call your teachers by their 1st names?

They always introduce themselves by first names, and I've never heard a clinical instructor be called differently!
  8. Pediatric oncology

I'm working on my BSN-RN and have loved every encounter I've had with pediatric oncology. Next summer I'll be doing an adult oncology externship, but my real love is for pediatrics. Any tips/suggestions for getting into the field as a new grad? Than...
  9. The "extra hard" 2010 NCLEX?

So I've heard the rumors are true... the NCLEX-RN in 2010 will be "harder than ever." How so? I'm currently in my junior rotation of school, get As and Bs, but don't do so well in the NCLEX "review" books. I supposedly go to the biggest nursing ...
  10. Anyone heard anything about no more masters degrees?

Yeah, this came up again in clinicals today. Our new clinical instructor is a MSN CNP and says she will be grandfathered in, but they're doing away with MSNs, going the "physical therapy" way and making everyone else go straight to doctorate for adv...
  11. Nurses in oncology having stillborns

Hi, I'm a student in a BSN-RN program and am really interested in oncology nursing. I decided to do my summer externship on an oncology inpatient unit until a friend of mine who works on an oncology unit told me that she knows of 3 nurses on her flo...
  12. The Patient Nurse

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm a senior in nursing school and have had chronic liver disease since age 5 and many chronic pain problems since being in a car accident 2 years ago. It really is a unique perspective, isn't it? I know being a pati...
  13. Snow- at what point do you call out?

Good questions & answers. How about students and clinicals? I'm getting nervous for this coming semester - clinicals an hour away in Cleveland (lake effect!) and I'm absolutely terrified of driving in unsalted, unplowed snow. If it was coming dow...
  14. Nurses in oncology having stillborns

How about if I'm not going to try to conceive for a while? My fiance and I want children - not for a few years, but definitely when it's the right time! Will working with chemo/oncology directly impact that, or only if we are actively trying to con...
  15. ... this is my 5th year in a BSN-RN program and it's going so slowly. I have a lot of health problems that are getting in the way of the rest of my schooling so I'm thinking of transferring to a LPN program since I'd probably have most of the course...
  16. Publishing in Nursing

I've done freelancing for Kaplan. Sometimes you'll just see a random "call for submissions" floating around nursing blogs/this site. Kaplan just told me they're done with the series, but who knows what else might come up in the future. Hopefully s...
  17. I'm in BSN-RN at Kent state - they have a few campuses and different options as well. I love it here! I know we have an LPN-BSN/RN option. :) Good luck!
  18. Anyone heard anything about no more masters degrees?

Right now does EVERY APN (NP, CNS, etc.) degree consist of a MSN? Or is that something you get first? And what are the "four" advanced practice roles? Are they the only types of the APN/MSN/? you can get? I would LOVE a "masters/advanced practice"...
  19. Nursing school.... is just a bunch of BUSY WORK?

Yes, definitely. I think mostly everything is okay, but there are definite assignments you have to wonder about. Right now I have a clinical instructor who is insane - she wants nearly 100 drug cards made before we can pass meds, but all of us are r...
  20. People are dropping like flies

I'm in a BSN-RN program, and we lost a TON of people in "pre-nursing" because they couldn't get through the 3 semesters of chemistry, the A&P, etc. We even lost a few in our "Intro to Professional Nursing" because they realized they just did not...
  21. Missed Clinical Orient. May be Expelled

I agree!! But for other reasons - like if we were to miss because of being sick or registering late, especially for the first day/orientation, I can't imagine any of my past instructors would have kicked us out because of that. Yes, it would be fr...
  22. Nursing students

This is interesting to me. I'm a student and I can tell which nurses like us, which don't, and which don't but are pretending to. I just make sure I do absolutely everything I know to do, keep the nurse informed on anything I do with my (their) pat...
  23. Anyone heard anything about no more masters degrees?

Do you have a link to "official" information on this? Is it ONLY nurse practiioners that are affected, or other APNs as well? Will existing NPs be "grandfathered in" or will they all have to get DNPs? How much schooling is it from a masters to a DN...
  24. Please Help! Super short survey

Going to the link right now! Good luck :)
  25. Anyone heard anything about no more masters degrees?

VERY confusing! There are already "doctor nurses" with of course the standard doctorate and now the "doctor of practice" degree they recently approved (last few years maybe?). Honestly? I LOVE the approach of nursing, but if I knew this 5 years ago...
