Oh my dear gracious lord, I did it!!! :bowingpur I just checked my status on UTLINK and there it was: MSN IN NURSE ANESTH/CLIN NURSG You have been admitted to the program for the term shown above. (Fall 2008) I cannot describe the pure joy, relief an...
GoldenGirl, I think that you are working under some false assumptions. First of all, as a SRNA (I start in the fall ), I can tell you that I and all of the CRNAs I know are first and formost passionate and caring NURSES. And secondly, becoming a CRNA...
I agree, keep your cards close to your vest. Being vague about your career aspirations is the best policy. While some may support you, most, will discourage you, and when you get accepted will be jealous.
I feel your pain.....BUT....I think that to be fair, if a CRNA is going to get a PhD it will probably be in nursing, no? Therefore theory is required for a PhD as well as a DNAP. I suppose an argument could be made that one could get a PhD in "ph...
Well, actually....if you go the MSA route and want a DNAP later you WILL have to take the theory classes you didn't take at the masters level, can't get around theory....them's the breaks. Longhorn
Well, you probably won't have to take the GRE since you have a prior MSN, but you will have to work as an ICU nurse for at least a year (that is a national standard and there is just no getting aroud it) Getting your certs (CCRN, CEN), will help and ...
sorry... darn thing posted before I was ready.. As I was saying: Take your A&Ps, Microbiology, Chemistry (organic too since you will need this for NA school.) Take whatever other prerequisite courses are needed for your nursing school Complete n...
Hi Smf5083, Welcome to the forum. Speaking as someone with a previous degree in Molecular Biology I have to say I think you need to do some soul searching. I know you have invested time in your current tract and that you must enjoy science...
Hi icustar, Yes, you have to have O-chem to get an interview, but it really isn't bad. I personally liked it better than physical chemistry because you can see how it relates to biological processes. Good luck. LonghornRN
Well I only applied to UT-Houston. The interview process, I have to say, was not what I expected (but in a good way). I was really expecting to be grilled about clinical conditions and drugs and ACLS + all of the behavioral stuff, but really it was v...
Just curious, why ASN? It takes almost as long (3-3.5 years vs 4 years for a BSN). If your looking for the most expiditious way, I say go for the BSN right away.
LonghornRN replied to meandragonbrett's topic in CRNA
Well, here in Houston, UT gets around 500 applications, interviews 50 and takes 9-15 students. Pretty stiff competition if you ask me. I don't think the numbers are that much of a stretch when you consider that there are far fewer NA programs than ...
I have heard the job of the CRNA described as 99% ho hum and 1% !!!!. I am not saying that I completely agree with this statement, but I think that when a pt goes bad, things can get exciting. As far as stress goes, I feel that any job you are well p...

Congrats TransplantGuru :smiley_aa, Boy, I wish I had an acceptance letter in my bag of tricks. I have inteview at UT for Feb 7th. Just curious, if you get into UTH as well, where would you go? Best wishes, Longhorn
Its very easy to secure ICU position here in Houston. I disagree with other posters who say 1 year isn't sufficient. The research that I have done on being a CRNA has shown me that while the knowlegde and skills that you obtain in the ICU will be b...

I spoke with the student affairs office and they said that you will know by December whether or not you get an interview and interviews start in January.
